Almost Alice by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor

There are a lot more of these books than I thought. And all the books I'm going to ramble about are Alice books. Because the local public library is selling them for 25 cents a piece. There are... 23 books? Maybe more. But whatever, I enjoy them.

It this book, Alice is 17, which is new, as she's been thirteen in all the other ones I've read. But it's nice to read about these characters when they're older. The comfort I feel with these characters reminds me of The Baby-Sitter's club, except that four years passes instead of the longest year in the world. I don't want to talk about it too much, because I will totally spoil the shit out of this book, but it is, in summary, awesome. Yay.

Alice in Lace by Phyllis ReynoldS Naylor

I am so jealous of this girl, she clearly has the best CAPP teacher ever. Seriously. This book focuses on a project she does for her Health class. Her teacher assigns people scenarios ('hey, you're teen-pregnant. you, your grandmother died. you're a drug addict. you two are getting married. GO GO GO GO.') and they research them ('my grandmother died, how much is burial and a coffin and is cremation a better choice and how does one execute an estate?') and then do a presentation. This, in my opinion, sounds like an amazing project. I wish I could have done it.

This book is just as excellent as the others.

Alice the Brave by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor

I read these books backwards, this one takes place before Alice in Lace. The girl can't swim. And.... book. This one was only alright, I enjoyed the bits that focused on Alice's phobia (and I'll wave my little 'specific phobia anxiety disorder' flag now) but the rest of it was kind of tedious. Probably because I already knew what happened.

Note to self: read things in the proper order in the future.
