Daaaaamnit I refuse to give anymore details on history SO YES. You can have a general-if-somewhat-vague overview. I am sorry it got so long.

Player Information:
Player name: Laura/Luara/Alura (but only on thursdays :|)/Selina (on weekends)\Allure (if you're Rema). But just Laura works.
Personal LJ: dismentality
AIM and/or E-Mail: sinfulroses@gmail.com (e-mail) | Arcfiring (AIM)
Timezone: EST

Character Information:
Full Name: Reno
Series Taken From: Final Fantasy VII and Compilation
Power Retained: He has an Electro-Mag Rod (basically, a baton-like weapon with electric properties KIND OF LIKE A TASER), but it's not a 'power' of his. Assuming he can bring that...? If not, then N/A!
Background: [including how they ended up at the house] I'm an essay person, so it's divided into sections for organizational purposes. :|b

Personality:
Reno can be a bit of a wildcard at times, with a personality that often comes across as contradictory unless you know him well enough to understand his reasoning. For example, he has a strong commitment to his job, but once tells Elena "A pro isn't someone that sacrifices themself for their job. That's just a fool.".

To him, a job is a job, and every job is meant to be done well. However, if you die on the job, it defeats the purpose of having one to begin with. After all, you can't do much of anything if you're lying six feet under.

He's able to rationalize things out in that manner, even despite having a demeanor that makes him appear laidback and careless. Basically, he can distinguish between when he should act, and when he shouldn't-- but he does like a little excitement. This excitement isn't the stupid 'rush into any situation just because I can' kind of excitement (he doesn't care for pointless battles, anyhow), rather, it's a preference for the situation he's in not to be boring.

Nothing's impossible for a Turk, if you ask him. The only difference with Reno is that he'll do what's required for the job, rarely anything more or less. He also isn't the type to try and stop someone from doing something stupid. If they want to, they can go ahead- just as long as they're prepared to deal with the consequences.

However, if something went seriously wrong, he wouldn't just stand there and let them suffer for it either. Reno is, essentially, someone you know you can depend on when you're in a bind. The catch is that he isn't likely to beg you not to get into the bind in the first place-- heck, maybe you'll learn something out of it and not repeat a mistake so stupid the second time. For that, you can also say that his laidback nature is deceptive. He won't do more than he's asked, but he isn't as lazy as he lets on either. While true he'd rather avoid unneccessary fights, he also acknowledges that it isn't his business to stop others from picking their own.

In essence, Reno may act it at times, but he isn't unreliable. He takes a lot of pride in his job (except that won't be enough to convince him to work while he's getting a drink off duty, most times), and though he acts like he couldn't care less about a lot of things, it isn't always the case. A job may be just a job to him, but he'll do it right, even if he doesn't approve of the circumstances. It's even a hard to place his loyalty, as he talks big about being a Turk, but didn't seem too worried when he was saying that Shinra was finished (yet at the same time, he was keen on rebuilding it afterwards-- maybe the bulk of his loyalty only extends to Rufus (his boss), Rude (his partner), and the Turks as a whole; What can be called his "friends", more specifically).

Overall, he mixes cocky with cautious, the end result being a personality that can be interpreted as either cool or hotheaded. Perhaps even both. Call it a careful recklessness-- you can say he doesn't give a shit most times, making his actions based on what he feels like doing at the moment, usually centered around what will get the job done without risk of death to himself. Even so, it's been proven time and time again that he's far from irresponsible. For that, Reno is among the most unpredictable of the Turks. A little cynical, a little fun loving, a little sarcastic, even a little irritable-- but still hard to seriously piss off because he's more likely to smart talk you or make a joke of it to get under your skin.

At worst he might get impatient, though for the most part, he's pretty smooth about how he operates. Let's just say he doesn't like to be outdone in almost any regard. Failure is not an option, plain and simple. He won't stand for being made a fool of. If you try and humiliate him, you'd better be ready to answer for it.

The Turks were also the ones sent to do most of the dirtywork: assassinations, kidnappings, you name it. Reno's learned to steel himself against emotions, drawing the line between doing his job and making things personal. To put it simply: He's a Turk. It's his job. And if he isn't prepared to do it, he isn't fit to be a Turk. Although he's not an inhuman monster and is capable of feeling remorse, he won't fall to pieces over it- guilt is a touchy issue in itself. Once the job is finished, he doesn't let personal feelings linger, knowing full well that it's easier to just move on. Of course, Shinra itself has been atoning for the problems it caused in the past, and it's a sentiment Reno is willing to share.

A lot of his identity does hinge on being a Turk-- like the pride, for example-- although the fact that it doesn't extend to his vacation time means that he isn't a fanatic. Again, work is just work. He likes to follow his own agenda.

Adding to the unpredictability is that it's hard to tell how he'll react. Even in an emergency situation, he's as likely to handle it calmly (and professionally) as he is to get frustrated. In the end, though, he makes sure the mission gets done, and hates being given menial tasks when he knows there are bigger fish to fry. Easily bored? Maybe a little. But if things get a wild, he's the best man for the task.

History:
Not much is known about his early past, aside from two facts: he joined the Turks at one point, and he began working alongside a stoic man named Rude. Despite their contrasting natures, the two got along well, bonded over the horrors of elevator shafts (which actually happened later on, to be precise), and made something of a name for themselves. He also trained a rookie named Rod, whom was recruited when Reno caught him trying to steal a motorbike from Shinra.

Eventually, Shinra ran into some problems involving a rebel group called AVALANCHE that was intent on bringing out it's downfall. The Turks alone were unable to defeat them-- and Reno himself was unable to win against one of their leaders, Sears. Instead, they were asked to 'recruit' more strong fighters for SOLDIER (a group consisting of people infused with Mako, whom serve as something of an army force for Shinra).

Mako, to oversimplify it, is essentially the 'life force of the planet'-- or rather, an energy source for it. If all the Mako is sucked out of the planet, the planet dies. Condensed, otherwise referred to as crystallized, Mako is also known as Materia, which can be used to acquire certain abilities depending on the type. Too much Mako itself, when taken into the body, can cause extreme sickness-- Mako poisoning. Around this time, Shinra was building Mako reactors to absorb it from the earth and convert it into energy to power the cities. AVALANCHE was continually interfering with these plans, even going so far as to blow up the reactors (or at least attempt to).

In addition to that, they tried to free all of the SOLDIER recruits that the Turks had gathered (kidnapped, actually), also launching an assault on the president of Shinra himself on their way to the reactor that they were trying to blow up.

Also around this time, files were stolen from Shinra Headquarters by a former scientist named Hollander. The scientist escaped at first, hacking the system so that the security bots were also attacking the Turks, and resulting in Reno and Rude nearly being smashed to death in an elevator shaft. When they finally caught him, it was while on another mission- Reno didn't like that he had failed his previous job, asking instead for permission to give chase.

Finally, something better than sitting around doing paperwork while Cissnei got the good jobs.

Unfortunately, Hollander got away, and they were asked to stand back and let SOLDIER handle the task. This angered him to the point where he almost considered leaving the Turks to join SOLDIER in order to get more exciting jobs. As it turned out, he decided against it, staying largely due to Rude.

They fought some Genisis clones, playing a slightly less important role in the events afterwards. Genisis had been a first class SOLDIER of notable skill- and also one of the ones that vanished during the SOLDIER Mass Disappearance Incident a while back.

Afterwards, he was also sent to investigate events in a town known as Nibelheim. The famous SOLDIER, Sephiroth, basically went crazy and burnt the whole town to the ground. He thought he was supposed to be saving the survivors, but Hojo merely needed them for an experiment he had planned involving "Jenova cells"-- cells from a creature that arrived on the planet when a meteor crashed into it years ago . More 'clones' of sorts were created, no surprise there.

This all happened as two 'test subjects' escaped from Hojo's experiment. One of those test subjects was a former SOLDIER first class, Zack Fair. Reno was ordered to find him and another escapee named Cloud, a task he did reluctantly since he was, well, not exactly all for the experiments in the first place.

Zack ended up being shot to death by perusing Turks and SOLDIERS (after his own series of events involving more clones, among other things), Reno not arriving in time to prevent it as he and Rude searched via helicopter.

After that, they dealt more with AVALANCHE, it eventually being revealed that the leader was their boss's (Veld's) daughter. In the end, following a mass tangle of events wherein Veld and Elfe were ordered to be killed, the new leader of the Turks, Tseng, feigns an assassination on the pair. He also tells them that the rest of the Turks were killed in action fighting a dangerous summon known as Zirconiaide, when in reality, he allowed them all to go into hiding. The only exceptions were Reno, Rude, and Tseng himself.

For helping Veld beforehand (he wanted to save his daughter from the Zirconiade), they were labeled as traitors and nearly executed before Rufus Shinra, the president's son, managed to earn them a second chance. Odd, since the Turks had kidnapped him at one point, but it wasn't something they had a reason to complain about. This is where it becomes obvious that Reno's loyalty is more to the Turks-- his friends-- as opposed to Shinra itself.

Later on, Reno and Rude are still working for the Turks, this time pursuing Aeris, whom also happens to be an Ancient. AVALANCHE is back under new leadership, as well. Unknown to him at the time, one of the former escaped test subjects that he had been ordered to capture years ago, Cloud, was working with them.

Cloud was actually the one he ran into inside a church where Aeris was-- he noted the Mako eyes as a mark of SOLDIER (and also stepped on the flowers, oops), before giving chase. The pair escaped Reno, thus he was given new orders to blow up an entire Sector due to information that AVALANCHE's new base was located in the Sector 7 slums.

His mission was a success- Reno planted the bomb that destroyed the pillar supporting the plate, which ended up crushing thousands of innocent people to death. Before he got away, however, Cloud and his group seriously injured him in a fight. He made a note to get back at that for them later.

A new Turk named Elena was assigned in his place for the time it took to recover (and she stayed on even after he recovered). They encountered Cloud's group a few more times, never actually succeeding in beating them, yet Reno still considered the attempt as a victory-- Cloud did walk into their trap, after all, meaning they still managed to sidetrack him.

As Cloud traveled some more, Reno and Rude, along with Elena, managed to get some time off. They headed to Wutai for a drink, unexpectedly running into some familiar faces.

Cloud's group was also there. He didn't care for the hows or whys, only stating that they were off duty and thus had no reason to go chasing after anyone. Even as other members of Shinra ordered the Turks to assist in the hunt, he chewed them out for ruining his drink before citing that it was a shame he wasn't on duty to save their sorry asses. The only reason he moved at all was to rescue Elena from a man named Don Corneo after she was captured by him while going after Cloud (he had kidnapped one of Cloud's friends along with her).

Receiving further orders to capture Cloud, he and Rude both conveniently overlooked them owing to the fact that they weren't on the job.

Some more time passes before Reno gets another good taste of excitement, this time when he ends up being temporarily promoted to the leader of the Turks. Tseng had been injured by Sephiroth at the Temple of the Ancients, putting him out of action for a while.

Aeris is killed soon after by Sephiroth-- and he also planned on summoning Meteor, which would signify the end of the planet if it managed to hit. Though Reno's newest orders were to kill Cloud, he chose to walk away instead, knowing what was best for all of their survival. No planet, no nothing. There wouldn't be any orders to follow if they were all destroyed because of one bad call.

Instead, he assisted in evacuating Midgar, the largest city, which was the location where Meteor would hit and do the most damage. In the end, it was the planet itself that saved the day-- Aeris had summoned Holy before her death. This used the Lifestream (the spiritual energy of the planet, to put it in a nutshell) to strike back against the Meteor.

Both Midgar and Shinra were pretty much destroyed (so it goes to say that the sister ray cannon didn't work out as planned) thanks to a monster named Weapon and the cannon meant to beat it backfiring somewhat, yet Rufus and the Turks all managed to survive. Sephiroth, presumably, had been eliminated.

Of course, that would be too easy-- so a few years later, a new problem is born. The Geostigma, a disease created by the body as it attempts to battle Jenova cells, spreads across the world. The children were the most commonly affected, since their immunity was lower. Rufus Shinra was also affected.

Rufus sent Reno and Rude to retrieve the 'head' of Jenova, his intent this time focused upon saving the world rather than ruling it with fear. A trio of silver haired men bearing a startling semblance to Sephiroth appeared around this time, also in search of it.

The three tortured Elena and Tseng, both of whom barely survived.

Operating in Edge, the remaining Turks turned to the one they thought most capable of dealing with this new crisis- Cloud. Though not actually an ex-SOLDIER like he once believed himself to be, the truth is that he still defeated Sephiroth two years ago.

Reno slipped up by accidentally phrasing 'rebuild the planet' as "rebuild Shinra", ruining their chance of earning his agreement. The Turks did end up working with him, fighting off two of the supposed remnants of Sephiroth while Cloud gave chase to the third. Reno and Rude got to blow up a bridge. With style. In the end, they were successful: the remnants were defeated (even after the one named Kadaj became Sephiroth himself for a short while), the Geostigma was cured, and they were heading the right way along the path of redemption.

*Ended up at the house after he thought he'd been assigned to do a... I don't know, house to house check for any remaining traces of Geostigma

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Physically, Reno is known as the fastest of the Turks. He's nimble enough to scale a building, and quick enough to get the jump on his opponents. Also, skilled with a good variety of weapons, ranging from heavy firepower, to a rod (his had electric properties).

He can also hold his own in battle better than the average person, given that he has years of experience.

Personality-wise, he's dependable, if you don't mind your favourite variety of dependable being a little bit of a wiseass about it. Finding the loopholes in a situation is also something he can work to his advantage. Aside from that, he's an expert at piloting a chopper, and doesn't get nerves over the prospect of his hands getting a little dirty.

However, he isn't the biggest, nor the most powerful. His strength isn't inhuman. He's also more likely to try and forget about his problems than accept them, or try to dismiss them rather than admit that they're part of who he is. He knows you can't change the past. It's morphed into something akin to an apathy, since truth be told, he really doesn't let himself care that much-- definitely a fault of sorts.

Also, he may be smart, but he isn't a genius, putting too much emphasis on instinct over steadfast logic. He can think things out to the extreme (and be damn good at it when he does), but his preference for excitement means that he can be provoked into making a careless move-- something that, though definitely not common for him, still might come back to bite him in the ass if it happens in the wrong kind of situation

Sample Third-Person Post:
So, what was it next? There had to be a next, because there was always a next. Hell, getting trapped in some spook of a house hadn't been the one he had in mind, but it still counted. No way to call Rufus, no way to finish his mission, and Reno wasn't sure if he even wanted to ask what that door was made of. Or how many guys broke a bone trying to bust it down, either.

Kinda wished someone would try it just so he could get a laugh out of it, actually. Eh. Then again, there wasn't time for dealing with injuries right now. What he wouldn't give for a good drink...

"What I wouldn't give for a bad one," wasn't that what they said about pickers not being choosers? A drink was a drink, and man was this ever a bad time to be sober. Checking on kids-- forget that, he should've thrown one down before leaving. Two for good measure, why not.

Ah, but what a shame, what a shame. See, he was pretty sure he was still on the clock- just a little sidetracked.

Sample First-Person Post:
[Written in first person action prose instead of type, but hopefully that's okay for a sample?]

Well isn't this just great. Damn door stuck behind me, just what I needed.

[Sigh.] What a pain. Anyone in here? And y'know, answering today would be nice. Checking on kids, geez. What am I, the new babysitter? Rude, you got it covered over--[Blink. HELLO EMPTY HALL.]

Rude?

Heh. Yeah, just great.
