While watching CSI, which I'm not digging as much as I used too, I saw previews for the new WaT episode and all I can see is EEK! GATS! I understand why the Roommate was totally tramatized by it. He can't even watch CBS anymore. I like Shark. I don't know why. It does have a slashy quality to it with Samuel Page (who I've liked since he was on All My Children) and hey the kid that played Skaara is on it and he plays a Martin. The show may not last, but it's a cool distraction.
The Roommate's younger brother JR showed up today very upset. The parents won't pay for law school so he's sitting the semester out because they didn't tell him until after tutition was do so he had no time to beg the grandmother. It's their twisted way of trying to get him to change his mind. He will be with us for about a month, which is fine I guess. I love JR like he were my brother so it's not a big deal. As long as he's not trying to live here for good.
Bert threw up today and The Roommate had a freak out. Took the poor cat to the vet and the vet said she'll (yes Bert is a girl, don't ask) be fine. I found it amusing.

Summary: People say I love you in the strangest ways

It’s raining the first time Rodney says that he loves Lorne.
They’re driving back from the airport, their Earth side stay almost over and Lorne almost doesn’t want to go back to the SGC for the long trip on the Daedelus where he has to keep from touching Rodney.
They spent their time at Rodney’s sister’s house because they spent their last stay at Lorne’s mom’s place. Jeannie had been more then welcoming and Madison had actually called him Uncle Lorne. Jeannie had quietly explained to her that Lorne’s real name was Mark and if she was going to call him anything she should call him Uncle Mark.
Lorne had told her it was fine because she had seemed so confused.
“But Uncle Rodney calls him Lorne all the time.” She had said and Jeannie had been at a loss for words.
So she went around calling him Uncle Lorne and asking him what the name of certain bugs were called and Lorne had answered her with a smile on his face.
He had long conversations with Kaleb about various English things and laughed at all his British literature jokes. Rodney had just shaken his head and had muttered something about being lucky Lorne hid his English roots in a place very deep inside of him where they were stationed because it was not a turn on.
Lorne tends to disagree with him on that because Rodney does get off on the fact that Lorne’s smart. Rodney likes to say that it has nothing to do with the English major side of things and everything to do with the fact that Lorne has a Ph.D. in science, even if it is a softer science.
All in all it was a great stay, even if it was pretty cold where Jeannie and Kaleb lived and Lorne thinks he had a permanent smile on his face throughout the whole thing.
And as they drive back, rain beating on the windshield of their rental truck and Rodney sitting in the middle with his head resting on Lorne’s shoulder as he tries to sleep but fails to.
“I should have put my foot down on this rental. I don’t care if it does make you feel manly.”
“Nothing could make me feel manlier then flying a puddle jumper.”
“You flyboys are all alike.” Rodney mutters.
“Still, a truck is nice. Used to have one… you know before my trip to another galaxy.”
“How very terrible for you to had to have given that up.”
Lorne rolls his eyes.
“Wasn’t exactly a hardship when faced with the best adventure ever.”
Rodney hums and tries to snuggle his head closer to Lorne’s shoulder.
“Thanks.”
“For?”
“Being so awesome. I think Jeannie wants you as a brother. And Kaleb was practically falling over himself with glee that someone else finally understands him. Madison likes that you know about bugs, which is a bit disturbing but I think it means she’s going to do great things. They love you.”
“I was just being me, Rodney. I think, mostly, they’re just happy for you. Besides, my mom was the same way with you.”
“Really?”
“Do you think she makes the double chunk chocolate chip cookies for just anyone? Nope those are for special people.”
“Or people just in love with her son.”
And if Lorne makes a choked off noise when he hears that, it’s not his fault.
“In love with her son, huh?”
“Well I thought it was obvious.”
Lorne squeezes Rodney tighter even if he is driving and even if it is raining and it’s probably dangerous not to focus all his attention on driving. Because it’s so Rodney to just assume that Lorne can tell that Rodney’s in love with him.
“I love you too Rodney.”

It doesn’t rain the next time Rodney says it, but it did feel like there was a huge storm.
A metaphorical one of course and it’s more like a hurricane then a storm and Lorne doesn’t know why he’s pissed or why Rodney’s pissed he just knows that they are.
He paces his room a bit and can’t come up with a good answer and he wants to curse and swear and break things because it was just a stupid fight. They shouldn’t have to break up because of it and he doesn’t think they will, but he hates the waiting period.
He could be the one to stop it. Go to Rodney’s lab and drag him out. Apologize for something he can’t even remember and let Rodney live in false smugness. But he’s stubborn and he doesn’t want to be wrong this time so he paces.
It’s late when he hears the knock on the door and he thinks it’s pretty pathetic that he’s there, answering the door, before Rodney can even get in the second knock.
It doesn’t matter though because Rodney looks tired and his eyes are red and puffy and his cheeks are pinched and he looks utterly miserable. So Lorne ushers him in and holds him close.
“I’m sorry.” Rodney mumbles against his shirt and Lorne shakes his head.
“It’s okay. It doesn’t matter. It was stupid.”
He’s not sure if it really is stupid, but that doesn’t matter either. It was a fight and couples have them and okay it was their first fight, but it was bound to happen sooner or later.
“I know it was stupid, but… it didn’t feel stupid at the time.”
“But that’s changed now?”
Rodney looks down at him, eyes thinking and concerned and he picks at nonexistent lint on Lorne’s shirt.
“I’m not good at this relationship thing. We’ve done the whole I love you thing and now I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop.”
“There are no shoes Rodney. Our feet are planted firmly on the ground.”
“I know that, it’s just… your smart and funny and good looking and have more social skills then I could ever possibly dream of having and it’s very quite possible even with my genius that you’ll get bored and leave. And that would be very stupid of you because I love you and that may not be worth a whole lot to some people, but I was kind of hoping it’d mean something to you.”
Lorne’s brows furrow and he remembers Jeannie saying that he’ll have to deal with issues. He’s prepared for them because he has a few of his own, so he just hugs Rodney tight and tries to convince him through touch that he’s not going anywhere.
~*~
The time that Rodney says I love you and it really means something, Lorne’s coming back from being off-world during a rain storm that had one incredibly massive mudslide.
He and his men got stuck in it and they’re all various forms of broken and bleeding and bruised because of the incredibly massive mudslide. There was a point there were they were caught off from Atlantis, their radios not working through all the cold rain and that was pretty scary.
Lorne notices, when he steps through the wormhole limping slightly, that Sheppard and his team are all ready to go in for the rescue and Lorne just smiles at them.
“Gave us quite a scare there, Major.” Sheppard says in that lazy drawl of his.
Lorne just smiles and shakes it off.
“Nothing we couldn’t handle sir.”
It’s at that moment that he sees Rodney, look of sheer terror on his face and he knows he’s probably in for a tongue lashing of epic proportions.
What frightens him is the silent way that Rodney walks up to him, terror still clear on his face and just stares at him.
“You’re not dead.”
“Just a little mudslide. I’m wet and dirty, but still alive.” Lorne says.
He tries to keep his voice neutral, but Rodney’s giving them away without even trying, standing there looking at Lorne like some war wife and Lorne shifts uneasily.
“You should get to the infirmary, Major. Have those bones looked at.” Sheppard says.
He knows that Sheppard can see it, but he also knows that Sheppard is probably Rodney’s best friend and that it really just doesn’t matter to him.
“Right, time for Doctor Beckett.”
Lorne doesn’t see Rodney while he’s getting checked out and the verdict turns out to be a broken ankle and some cuts and bruises that should heal up nicely in a few weeks. It’s the leg that’s going to give him the most problems, but Doctor Beckett assures him that he’ll be as good as new shortly.
So Lorne makes his way to his quarters and when he gets there he see Rodney sitting on his bed with his head in his hands and his shoulders shake just a little bit.
“I’m not crying.” Rodney says.
“I didn’t think you were.”
“You have to stop doing that.”
“Doing what?”
“The whole being dead thing. I’m not a healthy person. My heart can’t take much more of it.”
It’s only happened a handful of times and Lorne knows it’s part of the job. He’s had to face it more times with Rodney and he’s always been pretty stoic and calm about it.
But Rodney’s not him and he doesn’t even know the meaning of the word repression so Lorne hobbles over to him and sits down next to him.
“I can’t promise anything.”
“I know. I’m being phenomenally stupid, which is not something I like to be. It’s because I love you so much that it’s ridiculous. I’m a grown man. I should be able to handle a little near death.”
“I think the fact that you can’t is one of the things I love about you so much.” Lorne whispers, leaning into Rodney.
Rodney looks over at him, eyes wide and Lorne kisses him, soft and loving and reassuring because he’s not dead, just a little wet and dirty and broken, but not dead.
“You need to take a shower.” Rodney comments when they break apart.
“I’m gonna need help.”
Rodney nods.
“That’s kind of what I’m here for.”
So Lorne nods and lets Rodney take care of him because there’s not much else he can do with the big cast on his ankle and he’s really starting to smell.
And when he’s done, showered and clothed and lying on the bed, Rodney whispers I love you over and over again into Lorne’s ear.
And Lorne whispers it back.
