I went freelance in 2003, and haven't looked back since.

Congratulations. I did the same thing with my old job two-and-a-half years ago, and I haven't looked back. (My old boss became Vice President about three days after I left, and she's been doing a spectacular job at destroying employee morale and driving off anyone who remembers what it was like when the job was fun.) Yes, it'll probably be tough, but I also think you're going to kick ass and take names.
