Initially Cloud had little association with User apart from the whole thing with the Malboro. Charging off to the rescue on the news of her kidnapping was more due to being there to answer the call than anything else.
As time passes she becomes a more familiar face and occasionally the source of helpful advice and interesting... well, let's just say that few things will top learning the words to Barnacle Bill The Sailor.
Following the attack and the coma, a confused and disorientated Cloud would find some semblance of stability from her, convincing him that it's possible that he was not being hunted down or captured for purposes he could not adequately comprehend. User may think that she owes him her life, but he owes her his sanity.
In hindsight, he's a little embarrassed about bumping into her and giving her a view of Strife Buttocks.
As it stands he's glad to know her, honoured to have her call him a brother, and perhaps he'll be able to remember the words to the song.
We all pretty much know the start of it: stories of the famed general's power and skill in battle were Cloud's motivation to try to get into SOLDIER, "to be the best there is, just like Sephiroth."
Up close and in person Cloud regarded him with awe and admiration. His words regarding Cloud's potential bolstered his confidence to persevere in the grueling training regimen.
And, as they say in the news, then it all went horribly wrong. To say his view of Sephiroth has been coloured somewhat by the memories of the Nibelhieim event would be an understatement.
While he is slower than Zax in accepting the actual reality over the one in his memories (as overwhelming as it is), the absence of rampant killing and destruction, carrying Jenova's head around and going on about the Promised Land, he is cautiously willing to accept things at face value. There's just less awe, and stuff.
And since this has taken so long to put up, I'll just close off with this thingy I made about that epic moment.
No language can adequately describe that which is Merodi. Nevertheless, she is fun, cute, strange and possessing of a innocent naivete that baffles and amuses, especially considering her knowledge of Orgy and ignorance on the matter of bazongas. It is quite difficult to angst in her presence. It is damn near impossible.
