Oh Melinna - his bright blackbird of a wife - she would not have gone quietly, no, not Melinna.

And, of course, Glorfindel had been right, and Arwen did all she could have done - and it probably helped keep her sane - and poor Lindir, too...

Yes, it's not getting better, this story. I wanted to get the reactions of as much of Imladris as possible, through this very narrow perspective; I hope it's working. Thank you for reading, as ever, and commenting!

Such a powerful telling of this powerful tragedy for Erestor... part of a greate tragedy... a tragedy for them all... wow...

And, she went out fighting - fighting so fiercely that her opponents took her head not as spoil but as a trophy... another wow...

I especially like Erestor feeling her spirit being held by his need and being held in the Hall - not allowed to freely fade into Arda nor summarily swept away to Mondos. Sigh... as the story started I was afeared that this was the situation... like I said: powerfully told...

Thank you so much for your reactions! It's just what I wanted from this story - it was hard to write, and I hesitated before posting it, so this is very reassuring to hear. I wanted to write the communal tragedy, as far as possible from such a narrow perspective; I hope that comes through.

This was very moving, and beautifully written. I am too tired to write anything very eloquent just now, but will try to do so after the next chapter. Thanks so much for sharing :)

Thank you so much! I know the feeling of being too tired to compose a sensible comment - but this was lovely, thank you. I'm glad, as ever, that you're enjoying this story, miserable as it is.

Arwen did what she could, as did Lindir. What a tragedy to have struck Imladris.

All through this, I remembered Erestor introducing Glorfindel to human drink (alcohol) and remembered it clearly at the last.

No, Melinna would not have been quiet in her death.

Aha, wonderful. I've said before, possibly elsewhere, that all my fics are meant to be capable of being read separately but may work better read against each other. That's exactly the sort of detail I always hope will be remembered. I'm so glad you did!

How could it not be?! The stories you've old here are like a richly layered tapestry: yep, it's good for the once-off viewing but you can appreciate it so much more if you know the story, the history behind it.

And I think remembering when Erestor introduced Glorfindel to human drink enriched this story much more for me when I saw Glorfindel pouring Erestor a drink now to assuage his grief.

Eeeeeeeeeexcellent. *rubs hands together* That was precisely how it was meant to work.
