This is hilarious, and kind of a remarkable feat of engineering. Poor, perceptive Iris.

CHERRIES:

John generally uses it when he mentions his partner, which is a bit unusual, Iris finds, among cops.

She makes a conscious effort not to hug her files.

Aaaand Fusco's unfair workplace antagonism--what an harmful case of jealousy. I love her indignation at all these intrusions; I mean, okay, it's fun and I'm cruel, but also it very effectively rounds her out! Willful blindness about her own misconduct, real concern and uncertainty... it all makes sense, it fits together into a not unsympathetic person whose survival odds I'm worried about, and oh my god, they're still going to try and sell us on this romance, aren't they.

Dani speaks through her teeth, like someone with something to prove. Iris finds it slightly off-putting ( ... )

Thanksssssssssss. <3 I am resigned to the fact that no one else is ever going to read this, because Iris, but eh. I felt the need to write it anyway. I've more or less settled down to being exasperated with John for being so irresponsible and with Iris for screwing up some perfectly good therapy, which god knows John needs, but I can't help feeling a bit sorry for Iris anyway. Getting involved with John Reese is a bad idea; getting secretly involved with John Reese's cover identity is a terrible idea and bound to lead to far too many nasty surprises ( ... )
