"Just turn the chart upside down..."

 I prefer to knit socks from the toe up, so I find myself converting top down patterns quite often. Most of the time, I just knit the chart as written - the design is upside down on the sock, but most of the time it doesn't matter.


The socks I'm knitting now have a leaf lace pattern, and it just looks silly with the leaves pointing up. Instead of ( Read more... )

Top down socks, I usually cast on over a needle two sizes two big, then knit off of that size needle onto the correct ones (for me this usually means a size 4 as opposed to a size 2).

What pattern / chart are you using? Our knitting teacher is sitting right behind me...I can ask her.

Fiber Trends Leaf Lace Socks. I actually really like the way the picot edge turned out, and will probably use it more for top downs.

I don't know if this helps but the suggestion I got seemed to say something like "rewrite the chart, use the top row as the bottom row and such, and number it the way you normally would".

I'd just write it out in words. Charts are not my friend, usually.
