So my mother told me today that she thought I couldn't date anyone over 5'1 because I'm not tall and someone not handsome. Yeah, that's real cool. So I came back with so basically you think I can only date people who are abusers, drunks, and can't hold a job with all his teeth missing. Of course she said that wasn't what she meant, but dude that

If she was saying it in reference to an observation (like expressing concern if you were with a Super Tall guy) I could see the point.
However, I don't think that as a mom, I would bring it up to my daughter at all.

I am not sure, from your post, what made you think she was referring to only abusers, drunks or non-job holders, though. Maybe I am missing more of what she told you.

Or do you mean that because she said you cannot date anyone handsome that meant these types of guys are the only ones left?

Yeah, I felt like she was saying that all I deserved or should try for were those types of people because I'm not capable of atracting any other type of guy. I know that's not true of course, but it pissed me off that she would even say something like that. And it hurt me that my own mother would imply that her daughter deserved less than the best.
