So, there's an etsy seller that I really want to leave less-than-stellar feedback for, but I'm afraid of retaliatory feedback. She mismeasured a blouse I bought from her, but she won't accept returns. Really? That's a guaranteed recipe for a pissed-off customer right there. I could understand her position if I was just being a bitch about the ( Read more... )

Unfortunately I don't think there is anything you can do to protect yourself... etsy used to be more on top of the whole retaliatory feedback thing, but from what I've heard they just don't do it anymore, probably because it's too time consuming to try to figure out who is right/wrong, etc.

I guess if I was in your shoes I'd just leave a polite neutral, saying that the measurement was off by 10 inches but you understand the seller's need for specific policies.

Aw, that stinks that etsy doesn't keep up with that anymore. Thanks for your advice; that's probably what I'll do. And even if she leaves me a neutral in return, at least it won't mess up my feedback score (although it'd still really suck).

Matt, I really appreciate your input on this! I'm sorry it's taken me so long to respond. I still haven't left any feedback, actually, but if I do I think it'll be neutral. I'm concerned about retaliatory feedback for two reasons:

1.) I'm not a very well-established seller on etsy. Although I started my shop a year ago, I only have 23 feedback ratings. A negative or neutral will stand out like a sore thumb.

2.) Not all shoppers are as savvy as you and me! We may be pretty good at deciding whether or not an unfavorable feedback on someone else's site is well-deserved, but others just hightail it out of there as soon as they see a negative. But I guess that means that any customers I do attract would be good ones.

Thanks for your moral support! I think I will probably go through with it; I just keep putting it off...
