Lost

Ah Michael, you know your strength, and you play to it. Unfortunately, your strength is unwavering idiocy.

Should I respect that the writers are consistent? I think only if they reward me with his gruesome death.

I think I should just stop watching. The stupidity of the characters is tiresome, and the overall plot is so far pointless.

I don't remember michael specifically, but I stopped watching because I got tired of people being rewarded for doing totally irrational things.

Yeah, the show starts out with all this promise, like it's going to be some sort of "X-Files in Paradise" thing, but it turns out it's just an excuse for J.J. Abrams to engage in more character over-development and backstory, and they don't really care about What's Up With The Island. Also, they are so obsessed with making the characters "realistic" (i.e. stupid the way that normal people are) that it becomes pretty unpleasant to have to watch them do stupid things and never learn (which while an accurate portrayal of human beings, is exactly why scripted television is supposed to be better than reality television). After the second season, we got the third season episodes on DVD, but I haven't felt any particular urge to slog through more of it. I mean, are we gonna find out more about the island, or is it just going to be more character?

I actually like character development and back story in shows, but only when the characters are interesting. It feels like they just grab characters at random and write a few crappy scenes about them each week.

Plus, real character development takes place during the story, not in constant flashbacks. The characters basically refuse to grow. Even worse than that, they constantly drag in new, equally dull characters to fill up more time with flashbacks.

And, Christ yeah, do something with building a coherent plot for the "mystery" on the island.

I'm in the minority but I don't mind their stupidity. Real people would be that stupid (and would actually probably be far dumber). I also like the flashbacks.

All of JJ Abrams shows are like this. I love him, but I can see why a lot of people don't.

See, I think that in a plane full of people you'd get a few decent individuals, especially since to an extent you are biasing toward the top of the scale simply by the fact that you're taking a group of international travelers rather than a random population sample. Even with a random sample of 50, you should get a couple reasonably sharp individuals.

Actually, I'm wrong. There's Sayid and the Koreans. They're reasonably rational individuals. So, I guess that's the top of the sample. Sayid is your top 2%, and the Koreans round out the rest of the top. Curse this realistic writing!
