Back to California...

So, Thursday morning, Tom and I walk 'round to the local Post Office, procure one of their self assembly crates (the biggest size) some mailing address labels and a roll of parcel tape and head back tot he house to finish our packing.

Posting, packing, travelling, a lack of Mystery and much unloading of tech )

Yep, the "mystery" part was just tacked on at some point to make it a better tourist sell. But I still think it's an enjoyably weird place to visit. Too bad you can't rent it out for events tho.

Actually yes you can check http://www.winchestermysteryhouse.com/group.html#PrivateEvening
Probably Way Expensive, but it can be done.
The tour we did was already More than Enough of the house. We got to see a lot of what the house is about. They are still doing Some Repairs. But some things will be left as is, either because Mrs. W deliberately left them that way (she shut off parts of the house after the 1906 quake), and parts so that people can see where things were when she died.
The house had been abandon for so long, that a lot of repairs are just needed to keep it standing.
But from friends who have been born and raised here- It was the Winchester House, frequently nicknamed the Spooky House, or Weird Mrs Winchester's House, until the corporation took it over.

I think those are just in the Winchester Room tho - which isn't in the house itself; it's in the shop next door. The GBACG did an event there + a private tour once. That room is very blah. I wish you could have events inside the actual house!

It would indeed be something worth attending

The Winchester house reminds me of a dreamscape, the way the proportions are so wonky and the rooms run into each other without rhyme or reason.

Did you get to see the room lined with drawers where she kept her fabric? I envy.

Oh, yeah! The ones repainted in fake wood grain because whatever wood it was (now highly valued) was so common or ugly or whatever.

Teddy, it's great to hear you going places I've been, even though I'm now here in Massachusetts. I lived in Mountain View and Santa Clara for 7 years.

The Winchester house shows up under its own or assumed names in a few novels. (What a shock.)

Yep. No surprize at all there.

As trystbat commented - it would be amazing if events could be held in that house.

Yep. We saw it.

I envy too.

And all that lovingly overpainted wood grain effect on top of perfectly nice actual wood.
