Buses back to Dunedin are full today. This youth hostel kinda sucks, and I'd rather not spend another night in Christchurch. Time to hitchhike. What could possibly go wrong?

So, I am now in Dunedin, planning to take off for Christchurch tomorrow, then possibly on to Nelson, or to the north island. The city is pretty nice, and my flat is really close to the botanical gardens, which are lovely and have a really cool aviary. None of my flatmates are around yet, though a number of friends are. I was thinking today about the word "lunch," for perhaps a longer time than is healthy. Such a fantastic word, and yet at the same time rather aesthetically misshapen. And it's a much funnier word in general than, say, "dinner" or "supper" (the next best word, certainly) or "breakfast." Maybe part of the appeal to me is that it conjures up the ( Read more... )

It has been a most literary week. Last weekend was fall break, during which I went to Virginia with my family.
