I'm not even gonna preface this with an excuse or a warning that this comment is as scatter-brained as it gets. I'm just gonna talk.

This time, though, she only has herself to blame when she opens her mouth and tells him she’s doing her job.

It’s an ill-fitted attempt to put him in his place and she only realizes it after it leaves her mouth.

“Thank you, anyways,” he says, his tone oddly insistent with how polite he’s being.So, I super enjoy this section because I think it really highlights a behavior Sarah exhibited a lot early on in canon where she'd kind of overcompensate for going too soft on Chuck, because her more human side was dueling with her more professional side. In my head, her tone is very...clipped, for a lack of a better word, and I think that urge to put him in his place and undermine the side of her that's softening towards him works better with Devon than it did with Chuck because Devon is not a fucking idiot who's screwing up left, right, and forward.
