The Malkmus one took me a couple of times to really fall in love with it. I'm not a huge Pavement fan though, so I was kinda surprised.

The Opeth album is good, but like you said, alot of loud/quiet in parts but with more piano and organ work than usual! Actually, you might like it better than some of their other stuff... They do have a new guitarist.

Overall, the first six months of the year have been decent, but nothing's really exploded off the charts for me yet. The Weezer album was disappointing, but I did like Pork and Beans.

Also, I hadn't heard about the new Slipknot! I'll definitely get it because you turned me on to Volume 3, which I liked.

Aw I'm sorry you're disappointed by the Weezer album. Did you like Make Believe? Because I liked that, as well. Only Weezer album I don't like is Maladroit and that might be because I didn't give it much of a listen. I even like the Green Album (reminds me of summer/Timesplitters 1... it's a boring story so I won't go on, lol). Pork and Beans is an awesome song ( ... )

I gave the Red album a 3 star rating (out of 5), and everything else before had received at least a 3 1/2 star from me.

They have a great sense of melody and can write a catchy tune, I just didn'd dig any of the new songs. Lyrically, it was fairly weak, though I did appreciate everyone taking turns on vocals and "Greatest Man..." was really cool. I think they should do more Beach Boy-esque stuff like that again, with the layered harmonies, etc.

But no, it was only disappointing because I was excited about it.

Comments are never too long, sir. I have to leave for work though, so I must cut mine short.

Awrightee, all i'll say with the opeth/slipnot thing is that to me opeth have been consistently brilliant and always growing in some manner, while slipknot have always underwhelmed. To each their own of course but the new opeth certainly has moments of very different sounding stuff and it works quite well ( ... )
