Although I am QUITE pissed off. The record company that Reel Big Fish is signed to is doing ZERO promotion for the album. No online commercials, no radio coverage, and they are the ones that chose "Revolution" as the first single, not Reel Big Fish. Or so I've heard. I went to two places yesterday (Best Buy, some other crappy record store) and neither place had it. If it wasn't for Colleen being awesome and stopping by Newbury on her way home and dropping the CD off to me, I wouldn't even have been able to get it yesterday!
And word on the Reel Big Fish boards is the places that did get the CD in are only carrying like five copies!!! And the worst part is... the same record company is actively promoting Bowling for Soup!!!
Its alright though. I'm sure word of mouth will spread quickly. I've only heard people say positive things about the album. Well, there was that one kid who said it sucked. But then I called my dad and no one has seen him since...
Yeah, I've noticed that myself. Although the Newbury near my school actually had a shitload of copies and the lady behind the counter said they they sold a lot yesterday, so I guess thats good. Don't forget that Reel Big Fish has never really been huge here anyways
Your excitement is commendable; however, you would do better to listen to some real ska music: Skatilites, The Toasters, The Allstonians, The Slackers, Skoidats, Hepcat.
I actually am a big fan of The Toasters and I like the Skatilites as well as many other bands you may consider to be "real ska" such as Mustard Plug, Madness, and The Specials. I wouldn't say that Reel Big Fish isn't real ska though. Ska has many different forms, especially third wave ska which is what bands like Reel Big Fish and Mighty Mighty Bosstones are. Reel Big Fish is a bit of a hybrid of ska and rock which is good because it helps them to establish their own sound. Not all ska sounds alike just like not all rock sounds alike. Just because a ska band doesn't stay completly true to either the jamacian roots or the 2 tone style doesnt mean they aren't ska.
Besides I tend to not take the advice of those who don't leave their names.
