It's good that you're recognizing a difference between the proverbial heart and science. I know that a 100% scientific view of things is a little too sterile for me. So, hopefully you'll appreciate this quote (from a mathematician, no less!), which is my favorite: "The heart has its reasons whereof Reason knows nothing" (Pascal).

I love you idea of conduits, but I think that once someone dies, the conduit isn't broken, because we still care for those people. I think, maybe, the conduit changes to an ultra-violet type color that makes it that much harder to see, but part of us still knows its there... and if we look at it the right way we might be able to get a glimpse of it.
