A UNI eulogy

The more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that UNI was great because WE MADE it great--the friendships, picking our advisers, picking our classes, picking our thesis topics. I had a great time, but I don't think it was because of the adminstrative structures. So, while I echo your saddness, I'm also hopeful that the new program will be great for those students who give it their all and make it great.

RIP, UNI. Good times had.

I agree with you completely, and that's partly why I don't feel the despair that I thought I would feel.

Sorry about your program! denvermarmot July 27 2007, 21:14:27 UTC
It always sucks when something creates major changes at your school/college. Even if it doesn't affect you directly, it means that future students will not have the same experience that you did, which somehow seems to cheapen or tarnish your experience.

I took my biology classes in the Bailey Science Building at SUNY Geneseo. The college has just completed a new Integrated Science building, and now Bailey will house physics. Weird. On a happy note, the mural that I painted in Bailey's lounge is still there 20 years later. It will probably be painted over now, but a whole generation of students will remember my artwork as part of their college experience.

It's great that you left something important behind at your college. Sometimes, when I go back to old schools, I think, was I ever really here?

These are all just connections to the past, and when one of those connections ceases, you realize how fragile all of the other ones are.
