What kind of machine did you get? I'm looking to purchase my first machine too and am a bit overwhelmed. I hope to be able to teach myself enough to make cloth pads at home.

i got a Bernina Activa 240. honestly, i have no idea what to look for in a machine as i am new to sewing but it was a gift from my parents & my mom knows a lot about them. totally gorgeous machine and definitely much more of a luxury model than i ever expected to receive! i have read some of the memories in the different sewing communities for some info on what things to look for in a machine.. i would definitely recommend doing a little research and possibly checking out a sewing machine dealer for info. i'm told that buying through a dealer is the way to go because you usually get lessons, repair warranty, and often can get a great deal on a refurbished model. but i also understand the need to stick to a small budget so if you have to buy from a place like walmart or target, i would still recommend going to a dealer first to get some ideas of what to look for. i'm lucky that my machine comes with lessons & an awesome warranty.
