I didn't realise that you weren't aware of read_lotr_aloud. I like the idea but it lacks something in the execution. Mind you, I've become familiar with many of my LJ friends' voices. :D

I think if we wanted to we could do it in a much more uniform and professional way but as it is it's more of a hangover from the LoTR fandom days and just a way of sharing that we love the book with each other, rather than particularly trying to make something that can be listened to by a wider audience. I really enjoy hearing the accents from around the world - even though it's such a low key thing it has some long roots across the world.
