Israel's 60th Birthday...

On May 14 the state of Israel will be 60 years old.

To not support the concept of a Jewish state, as a Jew, given the origins of it’s creation, (as a reaction to anti-Semitism, racism, pogroms and the Nazi holocaust) is, for me, a non-option. I will always support the right of the state to exist on a fundamental level. However, there is a heck of ( Read more... )

I'm very glad you know and admit that it has its flaws. I've always said i'm not anti Israel but I am against much of what it does. I am also against a lot of what people do in the name of Palestine. I think if i'm going to be totally idealistic i'd say I want a two nation state much like the UK has england and scotland (and ofcourse wales, northern ireland etc) but we are able to recognise we both have a right to leave peacefully. I'll not be celebrating today (obviously) but I will agree I hope the next 60 years are much better than the last for all people involved.

Cripes! I never thought we'd find common ground on this one, but it seems we might have done. Maybe if we can, then there really is some hope for the future. As with so may things the only real solution is of course, peace.

Why should we not find common ground? Frankly history is a pile of rubbish. People are supposed to learn from it but lots dont. What i'm concerned about is Israeli's being forced to fight by their own government, lack of health and education in Palestine, bombs killing civilians on both sides and surely no matter who you are - jewish, israeli, arab, palestine, purple with pink spots - you cant agree with any of that? People need to stop excusing their actions (like they used to use religion in Northern Ireland to do some awful things) and start realising to be a patriot you must first accept if you're country fecks up you need to stand up and criticize it.

At the end of the day I want people to live in peace and hopefully it wont take 60 years to get there. We can hope.
