Yaoi!
This song motivated me for this story. It is an absolutely amazing rock song! It’s called “Cold (But I’m Still Here)" by Evans Blue. Very, very sad song.
(Cold) but I'm still here
(Blind) ‘Cause I'm so blind
(Say never) We're far from comfortable this time
(Cold) Now we're so cold
(Mine) And you're not mine
(say never) We’re far from obvious this time

Cloud felt another shiver rack his body as the icy wind began to increase in all of its bitterness. The snow was falling harder and he felt as if he was suffocating because of all the layers he was currently wearing to fight the winter chill. Guard duty in the chilly morning was awful.
Beside him Zack wore his simple SOLDIER uniform, looking more comfortable than a lizard soaking up the sun. Apparently his SOLDIER enhancements protected him from extreme weather conditions. For that, Cloud had never been more jealous…except for the fact that Zack was a 1st Class SOLDIER already and Cloud, well, wasn’t.
“Cold, Spikey?”
“Of course not! Why would I be cold?”
Zack glanced at him, and his sharply focused Mako enhanced eyes softened as he glanced at the trooper beside him. His best friend one might say. He knew Cloud didn’t like to admit to his very human weaknesses, probably because such things didn’t bother Zack anymore because of his enhancements.
Cloud shuddered again, feeling as though the cold had sunk into his bones permanently. He suddenly felt a comfortable warm weight settle against his back. Two strong arms wrapped around his chest from behind. His light blue eyes widened in surprise. His eyes slid to the left, looking for Zack; he hadn’t even seen the SOLDIER move.
The arms pulled him back against a solid chest. Cloud titled his head back and looked up, finding himself staring into bright violet eyes. “Zack, what are you doing?” Cloud asked, confusion crossing his face.
The chest he rested on began to shake as Zack laughed. Cloud noted how Zack’s breath hung visibly in the frigid air. “Keeping you warm idiot! What did you think I was doing?”
Cloud smiled, closing his eyes. They sat in silence, the snow swirling around them. Suddenly, Cloud felt a lips pressing against his own. His eyes shot open as if expecting it to be someone other than the person already with him. He was shocked; he and Zack didn’t have this sort of relationship.
It was sort of strange, to have another guys lips moving over his slowing, almost adoringly. At the same time it also felt good to feel Zack’s tongue run over his lips sensually, begging for entrance.
Cloud opened his mouth and Zack’s tongue slipped in, rubbing against his own. A strange feeling began to boil deep inside of Cloud’s stomach as he played with Zack’s tongue. Cloud was so immersed in the kiss that he barely felt Zack’s hands begin to slide down his chest.
What am I doing? Cloud thought.
He ripped his lips away from Zack’s and yanked Zack’s hands away from him just before they reached his crotch. Breathing heavily, Cloud buried his head in his hands, refusing to look at Zack.
He felt a warm breath at his neck as Zack rested his chin on Cloud’s shoulder. “Cloud?” Zack asked the hesitant question.
Cloud shook his head; he was ashamed of himself. He wished he could hide himself from his friend more than anything at the moment. He couldn’t figure out what had just happened.
Zack began to speak again, his breath bathing Cloud’s neck once more. “What am I to you Cloud?” He asked quietly.
Cloud looked up and blinked. The answer just popped out of his mouth because it was the only answer he knew. “You’re my best friend Zack, why?”
There was another silence that ensued. Neither one had the answer. Or rather, one did but didn’t want to share. Such was the typical friendship between boys. Cloud stared at his snow covered boots, wondering if he should ask Zack the question again.
The continued silence finally got to Cloud so he asked loudly, “What are you thinking about Zack?”
His eyes were actually dim for the moment; the mischief that usually gleamed there had disappeared. Suddenly a bitter smile made its home on Zack’s usually happy face. “I was thinking about…how I have never been this cold before.”
Cloud looked away, completely guilt ridden. He knew exactly what Zack was talking about and it wasn’t what it seemed.
Zack wasn’t shaking from the arctic chill.
