this dog thing

I forgot the book I am currently reading at home! So now I have seven hours to kill. So I guess I'll post.

Have any of you heard about this dog thing? Sorry if someone posted about this and I missed it because I barely read journals nowadays. Here is some article about it; there are more elsewhere. What really scares me about it is the knee- ( Read more... )

Well it's supposed to upset you not for the sake of upsetting you but to be like "hey dogs die all the time and you guys don't give a shit but when I do it it's suddenly like a huge deal," but I agree that there are better ways to go about saying that and also that what upsets most people isn't that a dog is dead but that some guy killed a dog in the name of art. Which is bullshit. But my deal is mostly re: the way people express their justified moral outrage in the most ignorant and inarticulate ways. People don't seem to make any effort to understand other people, or the world, or themselves. There is like no sense of perspective or proportion going on here. Also, this sample letter is straight up ridiculous: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=26898570848

and catching a dog just to let it starve to send a message about starving dogs in of itself is as stupid as people saying they'll kill the artist for killing the dog

True. I mean I don't think his message was really that people should care more about dogs, I think it's more about people than it is about dogs. But I feel like if you want to be like HEY THIS HAPPENS, YOU MOSTLY IGNORE IT BUT IT DOES, LOOK AT IT, there is always film, in which, as we all know, you can pretend to do something without actually doing it.

And I really don't get the arts committee thing. Many dickheaded things have been done in the name of art, though. And in the name of science, and in the name of God. It blows.

I hope that's the truth. The morally outraged on facebook have been told that it's a hoax but they don't believe it. I didn't really do a lot of digging, which I guess is hypocritical considering my main observations, but.

I joined that group because my friend invited me and I think it's kind of sick to display a dying dog as art rather than attempting to help it if you're able. But I hadn't read the form letter or anything on the group, I skimmed the intro then googled for a real article.
"He is a criminally insane sadist and enjoys inflicting prolonged suffering upon his innocent victims."? That's pretty ridiculous. I don't think the guy was right to do that and I don't think he should do it again, but he wasn't "criminally insane," he just tried to spread a message through a means that not everyone agrees with.

This reminds me of another article I read recently which I find worse... http://www.yaledailynews.com/storymin.html

The goal in creating the art exhibition, Shvarts said, was to spark conversation and debate on the relationship between art and the human body.I don't see how this could have been done for anything other than attention. Lots of other things spark debate ( ... )

A friend of mine from high school was in Boston with her grad department for a conference and I went along with many of them to a baseball game and then drinks afterward. We had major fun at the game because the Red Sox, if you didn't know, are very good at playing baseball. And then we got major drunk. Lolz. I didn't go to bed until like 4:30 AM and had to open the library the next morning at 10:00 AM. :*(

But it was worth it!!!

Then last night I went out to dinner after work and then to see Kevin Devine play a show and I went to bed at like 3:00 AM. I HAVE HAD SO LITTLE SLEEPSSSSSS
