"This is huge. Prison huge," Riley said, wringing his hands. Riley'd almost fallen down the steps as he chased Ben outside, he was so shocked, but Ben had managed to get him to sit down. So Ben stood, and waited for it to sink in.
"You are going to go to prison, you know that?" Riley squinted up at him in the bright sunlight.
Ben nodded. "Yeah, probably."
"That would - bother - most people," Riley said faintly.
"Ian's going to try to steal it," Ben explained. "If he succeeds, he'll destroy the Declaration. The fact is, the only way to protect the Declaration is to steal it." It was all perfectly logical. But, seeing the look on Riley's face, he added, "It's upside down."
He sat down next to Riley, close but not touching, and Ben thought, fleetingly, that he should have sat closer. "I don't think there's a choice."
Riley squirmed. "For God's sake, Ben," he burst out, jumping up. "It's - it's like stealing a national monument, ok? It's like stealing " - Riley cast around for a moment - "him! It can't be done. Not - not it shouldn't be done, it can't be done."
Ben just looked at him.
Riley sighed. "Let me prove it to you." Ben smiled that inscrutable little smile of his, and spread his hands wide.
"Be my guest."
Riley sighed again and rolled his eyes, like he was tired of dealing with a small, annoying child. "To the Library of Congress, then," he cried as he skipped down the steps. Ben shook his head and followed at a more leisurely pace, wondering where youth got their energy from, these days.
Notes: I love National Treasure.
If I were a movie, I'd be it. Maybe with less Abigail/Ben, but.
Also, I love Riley. So much. "Alberqueque! See, I can do it too." XD
