Summary: Mrs. Pevensie observes her oldest and her youngest together. sort of Peter/Lucy
Mrs. Pevensie opens the door, and notices immediately upon entering that only two of her four children are home.
Peter and Lucy. Her oldest and youngest, separated by five years, yet the best of friends. It had been adorable when they were smaller, the way that Peter was always so fiercely protective of his youngest sister - even now, home for the holidays, they seem inseperable.
Taking off her hat, she hears the soft voices of her children. Following the sound, she pauses in the kitchen doorway, and watches.
Lucy is sitting on the kitchen table, Peter, hair wet from the rain, in a chair in front of her. She is dabbing at a cut on his forehead as Peter winces and hisses. "Sorry," she says, and grabs his chin. After a moment she leans back. "There. It's not as good as some cordial, but at least it's clean now."
Peter sighs and smiles, and says, "Thanks, Lu." He grabs her hands as she slides off the table, and looks straight at her. "I am sorry," he says.
"I know you are. It's just that ..." she sighs too. "It just scares me a bit, these fights you keep getting yourself into." Listening to her daughter, Mrs. Pevensie feels a heavy tugging at her heart. It seems, lately, that Lucy too is growing up.
Peter huffs, squeezing her hands. "You were certainly brave today, jumping in the middle like that." Lucy grins, and then reaches up to kiss her brother on the forehead before pulling him into a hug. "It'll be alright, Peter," she says.
Mrs. Pevensie, feeling out of place, retreats to her bedroom, and leaves her children to each other.
Notes: In celebration of the Prince Caspian's debut.
Peter's new propensity towards fighting intrigues me, as does the idea of seeing Peter and Lucy's relationship from the viewpoint of someone else.
