I enjoyed this story. Shalar's hurt and disappointment came through well here. I liked the comparison of his mother's grave to the study, where the grave had no sense of her and the study did have a sense of her.

When reading, I got a good sense of how Shalar felt like he were trespassing because he wasn't a knight and wasn't ever going to be one.
