"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
A loud scream echoed throughout the classroom, followed by the piercing noise of a desk and chair scraping the floor. All eyes simultaneously turned to the student who had just jumped up and is currently flinging his arms.
Their teacher at the front sighed at the interruption, placed a hand on his hip and asked, "Is there a problem, Yamada?"
"Ka... ka.. kabuto*....." Struggling to find his words, he pointed to the giant black bug on the floor and then let out another scream as another one crawled out from inside his desk.
"What?!" The sensei barked out, a little annoyed.
Sensing that, Ryosuke froze in his position trying hard not to have another outburst as one fell on his shoe. "There... there are kabutos... in my desk..."
"Why would there be---"
"---Sensei, that must be my fault." The voice of a demon suddenly interrupted from behind him. Ryosuke felt a shiver run down his spine, and he mechanically turned his head.
"The kabutos were samples requested for the biology lab. I must have forgotten to close the container properly and they all crawled their way to Yamada-kun's desk." Nakajima Yuto had a very worried and innocent look on his face, like he actually felt sorry for what he did. He dug his nails into his fist unconsciously. Ryosuke could almost believe him, if the excuse didn't sound so ridiculous. How do they ALL crawl their way from one desk to another?! But most important thing of all, this guy started pranking him since last week! So of course he wasn't sorry! He must be laughing inside!
He was so angry right now, he wanted to flip the table at the Oscar award winning actor in front of him. But he can't, because if he did, he would probably end up dying an unsightly death with his corpse thrown to god-knows-where so that the crows and seagulls can peck at it. So he resorted to flinging away the kabuto that was crawling up his pant leg.
"Sensei, I don't want to interrupt the lesson any longer, and I'm sure Yamada-kun thinks so as well. So let's just leave the kabutos until the end of class."
No, no, no, no, no.... they can't just leave those damn bugs with him!!
"Ok, can we get back to class now Yamada?"
NO!!! He can't sit with these gross things in his desk!
"I'm sure it's fine with you right? Yamada-kun?"
NO IT'S NOT!!! YOU DEMON!!
"Yamada-kun?" His eyebrow twitched again when Nakajima Yuto smiled at him. Because Ryosuke was 100% sure that sunshine smile translates to 'I dare you to say no so I can torture you even more later'. So he dejectedly muttered a meek yes, pulled his desk and chair back into place, and sat down.

He returned to the residence exhausted. After the straining class in which he had to sit still and keep himself from screaming every time a bug crawled out of his desk, he was made to re-capture every single one of them. Because his nightmare said the biology lab keeps a really strict inventory, and if he didn't take care of it, he'll take a huge cut to his marks.
So much money and hopes and expectations spent in coming here, failing's not an option! He HAS to graduate, damn it!
And that was the reason for him spending an extra two hours after class looking around for that stupid kabuto which crawled its way into the garbage can.
Ryosuke sighed, took off his uniform jacket and flopped onto his bed. His roommate stopped writing for a second and turned to look at him. He stared back wordlessly from his position in the bed.
Arioka Daiki was a third year student who had been living in this double person dorm by himself before he arrived. He had long bangs, wore glasses, a bit short like Ryosuke and had a round face; he probably would be considered cute by many girls if he actually smiled. But the truth was, other than the first day introductions, Ryosuke could probably count with one hand how many words they've spoken to each other ever since.
Ryosuke didn't blame him though, if a bunch of people suddenly rush into your room and throw your roommate's stuff outside to hang on trees before you've even see him, you would be scared. He wasn't there to see Arioka Daiki's face at that time but if it was Nakajima's lackeys then they were probably all powerful people you don't want to mess with. It was completely reasonable if he wanted nothing to do with him.
"....It's not gonna stop you know?" Arioka suddenly opened his mouth and said.
Ryosuke had his mind wandered so far away, he couldn't understand immediately. "What do you mean?"
When Arioka returned to his desk and started writing again, he sat up on his bed and hugged his pillow. He waited for the other to speak up again.
"He's not gonna stop this game, until he gets what he want."
He took a few seconds to think about the sentence. The 'he' would refer to Nakajima Yuto, and the 'game' is bullying, Ryosuke could get that much. But what does he want then? If Nakajima isn't bullying him for fun, then what does he want?
"What does he want?" It can't be a grudge, because he had never been here before, and never met any of the people either.
Arioka shrugged. "I don't know, but I think it's better if you just leave now."
"Leave?"
"Leave the school."
He could only stare in shock at the suggestion. It can't be this serious, can it?
*
He was running again. People were chasing him in the dark, he can't see but he could hear the pounding of footsteps behind him. Lungs burn with the lack of oxygen, Ryosuke couldn't understand why he was still out of breath no matter how much air he tries to intake.
He doesn't know where he's running to, because everything around him was pitch black. It was then he realized that there was no support under his feet. Was he floating? Falling? Or sinking?
The bridge of his nose hurt for some reason.
His head was starting to hurt because he can't breathe.
He was drowning, deeper and deeper.
Yet he thrashed his limbs, trying to swim to the top. His arm hit something solid, and the pain at the bridge of his nose suddenly vanished. The sudden rush of air to his lungs made his heart stop. And then he opened his eyes and found himself wide awake --
"Ohayou, kobuta-chan**," -- and face to face with his nightmare.
"Na.. na... Nakajima!!!" He managed to croaked out the name even though his mind was caught in the mess that was between dream and reality. Ryosuke eye the other suspiciously as he leisurely placed a hand under his chin.
"Quite a heavy sleeper aren't you? I thought you were never going to wake up."
I wasn't going to, if you suffocate me any longer.
The sarcastic remark popped up in his head automatically as he realized that the demon woke him up by pinching his nose and denying him air.
He turned his head to the other side. Arioka's bed was empty, as usual. His roommate had a habit of waking up really early and disappearing from their room before Ryosuke even opens his eyes for school. It wasn't surprising that the student rep had the keys to his dorm, but why was Nakajima Yuto in his room at 6 AM? To subject him to torture this early in the morning?
The other side of his bed suddenly dipped lower as someone pounced on it and the said someone slapped an arm across his shoulder. "Maaa, kobuta-chan, it's time to wake up!"
Ryosuke took a look at the grinning Yaotome Hikaru and tried to worm his way out of the arm when Nakajima on his other side spoke up, "kobuta-chan volunteered for cleaning the swimming pool today, so hurry up or you'll run out of time."
He had to restrain himself from making the 'eh?!' face when he turned to Nakajima. Of course he did not volunteer for such a thing -- don't they have janitors for that?! But then again this person can turn his 'did not's into 'did's, any time, any day. Ryosuke can only hope that there's no trick behind all this. He was then roughly yanked out of bed by Yaotome and then Nakajima Lackey number two -- Takaki Yuya -- made him put on his bunny slippers before dragging him out of his dorm.
Although it was officially spring, the temperature was still a bit chilly in the mornings. Ryosuke cringed as the cold breeze bit into his skin. Of course they wouldn't allow him the luxury of changing out of his sleeping t-shirt and shorts. Yaotome and Takaki 'escorted' him with their arms looped around his shoulders, grip strong enough to prevent him from running like last time. Nakajima walked in front of them at a brisk pace making it hard for him to keep up. He cursed them internally for their stupid long legs. It made sense for Yaotome and Takaki, because they were seniors who stayed back one year. But it was unfair for Nakajima to be almost a full head taller than him when they're the same age.
Ryosuke cried a little for his white bunny slippers as they cross the moist lawn from their residence building to the other side where the rest of their school buildings were. Heisei was a giant school, where they have a gym, an outdoor track, a private soccer dome and an independent building for their swimming pool. He still hadn't had the time to visit all of these facilities, so when they entered the glass building where their swimming pool was located, he couldn't help himself from gasping at the size. It was a 50 meter rectangular pool, Ryosuke gulped, and by the looks of the colour, they were standing right next to the deep end. The sunlight filter through the glass windows and illuminated the whole place, but Ryosuke could only feel a dark cloud of dread above his head. They're not going to tell him to clean this whole place up by himself, are they?!
Takaki suddenly grabbed his chin and turned his head to the side, "that is the maintenance equipment room."
"It's unlocked and everything is inside." Yaotome added and poked his cheeks with a grin.
"Just make sure you do a good job, or there will be consequences." Nakajima finally turned around and regarded him. There was a gentle smile on that handsome face, but in Ryosuke's eyes he could only notice the horns and tail on his tormentor.
"Con... consequences?"
"Yup, kobuta-chan. Punishment."
"What punishment?"
He regarded each of the three people quickly. And when he caught the raised eyebrow from Takaki to Yaotome, and then the look from Yaotome to Yuto and the nod that was given back, he started to panic. His foot took a step back automatically in defence; there as an insane urge to run. But before he could even throw off the arms around his shoulder, the intense feeling of vertigo swept through him. In the blink of an eye he went side ways, hands grabbed by Yaotome and feet by Takaki.
"W.... wait! What are you doing?!" He raised his voice and yelled. Ryosuke wanted to struggle but he was also afraid that they might drop him painfully to the ceramic floor.
"Allow us to demonstrate." Yaotome's voice rang out above his head.
He screamed as they started swinging him.
No, no, no!!!
His breath caught in his throat as he felt the hands let go of him, and he was at the top of the parabola.
Everything seem to go in slow motion.
He could see the cruel and laughing faces on the two who had just thrown him. Out of the corner of his eyes, he could see the smirk on Nakajima's face.
For a split second he hated himself for not learning how to swim when he was little, and then splash, he was in the pool. Water rushed in through his opened mouth, nose and ears. The icy water prickled his skin painfully like needles, and Ryosuke wasn't sure if it was the from the fall or the temperature.
He suddenly got a sense of deja vu, it was the same as his nightmare, and he thrashed harder to stay on the surface. He couldn't cough even tho he was choked by water, and the sounds of his struggles deafened his ears.
The sound of water scares him. There was nothing under his feet and nothing for him to hold on to. He just kept sinking, and he stretched his neck to keep his nose above water. The three figures by the swimming pool retreated towards the door. Ryosuke desperately reached a hand out as if they could see it and would reach for him, but it just felt painfully into the water the next second as he tried to keep himself up.
No, don't leave.
Don't leave!
He screamed inside his head. But they couldn't possibly hear his thoughts. Through all his thrashing he watched in horror as Nakajima turned around, smiled and gave a little wave. And then the three strolled out of the glass doors leaving the building. The sound of the door closing felt like final judgement for him.
What felt like panic just dropped right down to the pit of his stomach. He was pulled under with the weight, choking in water.
Then Ryosuke felt himself giving up.
And he fell into the dark abyss.
