So I finally decided to post about my trip to Florence and Pisa. However, since I've got a bunch more to catch up on, I'm only going to spend a little time on this.
We spent two nights in Florence, and hit up Pisa on the way back to Rome. Florence was amazing. Really, an art buffs could pump iron there for years. ^_^ Anywho, on to Florence.
First off, these were our rooms. 20 euros a night. I kid you not. The most comfortable beds I've slept in in my entire Europe semester. Right in the middle of everything. Awesome. And the owner was a really nice guy, too.
Now let's bust right into the good stuff. About four blocks away....
The Duomo. A.K.A. The Most Beautiful Church in the World. Also, reminded me of Candyland. Who doesn't love Candyland?
And, of course, we had to sede the inside. And climb to the very, very, very top, which, mind you, is not for the faint of heart or clostraphobic. Or nictophobic. Heck, just don't climb it if you don't want to.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the dome of the Duomo. Heh.
The Hydra.
The inside.
And the view of Florence from the top, of course. I don't think I've been to a European city yet and NOT hiked something to look at the ENTIRE thing.
The Ufizi Gallery! A famous art museum, for those of you who aren't nerds.
These were replicas of famous stautes outside the Ufizi. This is depicting the famous Rape of Sabine (a city) which I will speak more of in the next post, when I give my Rome history lesson.
Perseus beheading Medusa. Go go Alie Ancient Myth Skills!
And now, the famous Boboli Gardens...
All made naturally. The Italians are pretty cool...
And what famous gardens would be complete without a fat man on a turtle?!
More pictures from high altitudes. That's my roomate Christie. She's my roomate now in France, too.
Just....because.
See that! That! That is a hord of nuns....surounding, what else?! A GELATO STAND! It's a sign! God's gift to mankind- Gelato!!!
And what is this? What could this be?
Why, it's Dante's house. Two blocks from our hostel. This is Dante of the infamous Devine Comedia, folks. You know, Dante's Inferno, all that...
There was a man, when we first got there, wearing all red, with a crazy hairdo, sounding like he was preaching very...dynamically, in Italian. He had, like, to faux hawks in his hair. What does Alie think automatically? "Oh, it's Flock of Seagulls does religion!"
Later on, I realized he was reinacting parts of the Comedia. Anyone could make that mistake.
And finally, Ladies and Gentlemen, I give to you the talk of all Florence, the Perfect Man, the hard body that made me sneak three law-breaking photographs......HEEEERRREEE'SS DAVID!
First of all, I knew a bit about Michelangelo's David before coming to Florence, but what I didn't know was how BIG he was. He was twice the size of a normal human.
Really, these pictures do him NO justice. The detail and craftsmanship of him was...just...wow. You could see the dang veins on his hands!! I've never seen any art so amazing. Seriously, I rate everything now on The David Scale. Even Christie, who's not fond of museums had to sit and stare for ten minutes......
.....at his BUTT.
I kid you not, picture=no justice. The nicest butt I've ever seen. Hands down. Sorry Brad Pitt. You lose. Painfully. I'm serious. Both me and Christie agreed that it has some sort of supernatural power. A magnatism. Even the men there couldn't not look.
And, with that, I round up the trip to Florence. I highly suggest visiting if you ever get the chance.
Also, you can get good gelato there....on a waffle!
And n
ow we move on the the quick trip on the way home to the city famous for it's unstable building construction--PISA!
Really, there's not too much in Pisa, so I'll get to the good stuff.
There it is. Yep. Leanin'.
What you probably didn't know is that Pisa is a bell tower. For this church.
And, of course. What trip to Pisa would be complete without the touristy photo op?
Well, that's all for this entry. I hope everyone's doing well. I'll see you next time when I give you the Ultimate Alie Roman History Lesson Of Ancient Rome and All Time.
Peace!
