AU BACKGROUND: Sora was born on a small island in the Florida Keys, and his best friend has been his best friend since… well, ever. Ever since Kairi (his other best friend, who has been his best friend since almost ever) showed up, Sora wondered about places other than his hometown. First, he wanted to be an astronaut, so he could see the universe. Then, he wanted to be a pirate, so he could see the whole world. Eventually, he just wanted to get out of his hometown, and everyone knew it.
One day, Sora went to go talk to Riku, who had just discovered his mutant abilities. Chasing after him, Sora ran right into his portal and ended up smack dab in Richmond, VA. He didn't want to tell his parents that Riku was a mutant, and there was no way he could have justified how he ended up in Richmond, so he called home to say he'd decided to move forward with his life. And he was failing algebra pretty badly, anyway. Of course, his parents were furious, and Riku was already gone at this time. After making sure Kairi was all right, he told his mom he loved her, but he'd made up his mind.
After that, he looked in his pocket for money, bought himself a soda and a bus ticket to wherever $13.92 and a coat button could take him.
So basically, Sora's been going around the United States, trying to look for Riku. He did a lot of odd jobs, and a lot of hitchhiking, and made a lot of friends on the way. Sometimes, Kairi comes to check up on him in a projection, so he's alright with having left his home behind. Occasionally, he calls home from a phone booth, or wherever he's staying. Over a period of time, he discovered his powers, and he heard about Xavier Institute. He figured it couldn't hurt to look for Riku there, and started heading back to the East Coast.
Around the time he was hitchhiking, he helped a guy out of mind control, who happened to be Riku, but he had no idea at the time. So essentially, for the last stretch of his journey, he's been trying to find someone he already found
After he finds Riku again, he plans to try to convince him and Kairi to get together to go somewhere, like on a world cruise or something.
PERSONALITY:
Sora is adventurous and can sometimes be a bit naive, which makes him a carefree/fearless sort of alpha hero type. He's always up to be helpful, he makes very quick judges of character (good vs evil!) and he carries through with his plans. He's very reliable and very honest.
He's also very positive; he likes to laugh and smile and he likes to make others happy. He's very energetic and driven to achieve his goals; he's very headstrong. Sora's also very social and friendly; he just can't go anywhere without making friends. He has a very open and inviting sort of persona; he's easy to approach and easy to talk to, since he's interested in a lot of what people have to tell him.
He's definitely not the brightest; he often has a hard time looking beyond the surface, which correlates to him making quick decisions based on the little that he knows. He's definitely kind of a derp, and his sense of humor is... basic. Also, there is very little grey area for him-- he has a strong sense of justice and things are often only in black and white.
It's easy to read him, because he wears his heart on his sleeve. I guess that makes him a sap sometimes, because he really loves his friends. He is incredibly loyal, almost to a fault. He'd give just about anything and go just about anywhere and face all sorts of trials to help his friends. He is also very forgiving, because he is very easygoing and he doesn't like too much drama and conflict. If there is any, he really likes to fix situations that are broken.
Sora has a lot of pride and a lot of dreams. He gets a little bit more grounded and serious later on, but he's also very resilient, so he goes back to being a lovable dork who really enjoys his life very easily.
He's also really impulsive, and not very patient. It seems the rational part of his brain is just a tad underdeveloped, which may be due to the fact that just about everytime he meets a challenge, he faces and defeats it. He really puts his heart and soul into everything he does, and so while failures may discourage him, he has a lot of self-esteem to fall back on. Probably because of this, he's also very competitive, but it's never a negative and jealous sort of competitive.
Though it may not seem like he is, Sora is emotionally strong, because he faces a lot of loss and suffers only a little trauma, in relation. He meets new things with enthusiasm, he has a strong will, and he has a lot of faith in the light, his friends, and destiny.
POWERS: Telekenisis. Specifically, he's great at summoning objects towards him to be used in combat, jumping very high, gliding around (when it's really foggy, he can actually fly. I'm looking at you, London.)
He also can open anything. Locks, treasure chests… He can also open up doors that exist to other dimensions, if he can find these doors.
ANYTHING ELSE?: He has great stamina and balance. Also, before I forget, his birthday's June 23rd and he's 5' 4".
- RP SAMPLES
First-person sample: Is this on? [ there's a clattering noise ] --Oh! [ he fumbles around to pick it back up and looks really closely and intensely into the communicator ] I'm So-ra. Can you hear me? I'm looking for Riku. He's kinda tall, and he's got silver hair and green eyes.
[ he's not used to not getting an immediate reply; technology is so awkward. He makes a face in concentration, and then, in a burst of what could only be pure genius, jams on a bunch of the keys! ]

Third-person sample: Bundled up, Sora resembled the Michelin Man more than he did a slightly skinny teenage boy. He sat down, big sneakers clanking against the legs of the barstool.
"What can I getcha, sugar?" asked the waitress. "Seem pretty down. Cheer up, hun. You've still got the New Years to look forward ta."
He smiled at her, but she'd pointed out pretty obvious things. He was a little tired, and he was running a little low on morale. He'd bought a duffel bag somewhere when he reached Chicago. Near the top was a small embroidered cricket in a tophat and waistcoat, smiling at him. But as it turned out, bags that sell for $20 don't exactly last forever, and Sora's was no exception.
"A water and a plate of fries, please. Small." He watched the television idly, more interested in his food than the news.
When he received his order, he spent a lot of time moving the fries around on his plate; if it took longer to eat, maybe it would seem like he had more of it.
The guy on tv was talking about... something like Excalibur's Institute. For mutants.
Wait.
For mutants?
His eyes darted to the tv and he was hooked as if maybe if he squinted enough, the resolution would magically get better and he'd be able to see if Riku was in the shot somewhere. Okay, so maybe that wasn't the best plan, but this was a good lead. It was the best lead he had since he'd started out on his journey. And then, there it was, plain as day--
--New York. He smiled as he thought it. He was headed to New York.
He turned his attention back to his plate, which somehow replenished itself of fries and grew itself a burger. When he looked up at the waitress, she merely winked at him and they exchanged wide, toothy grins.
Sora finished quickly and paid his bill, leaving the biggest tip he could afford and a horrible stick-figure drawing of gratitude on his napkin. The only problem now, was that he couldn't quite remember exactly what direction the train station was, but he looked up at the endless gray skies above him and let them guide him along.
