1. We're over here discussing The Tipping Point. If you've just finished the book, please, weigh in.

2. July's book was scheduled to be Kafka on the Shore. Seeing as how it's the end of July already, we're going to push Kafka back to August 9th or so, then take the rest of August off and do Rebecca at the end of September. August is normally ( Read more... )

I had to return this month's book before I finished it, since someone else requested it. But I've already finished Kafka, heh. Maybe when I unpack all my schtuff I'll actually find my copy of Rebecca!

I need to bust a move on Kafka. My copy is waiting at the library, though. :)

I think I'm just going to buy Rebecca. It's easy enough to find used, and I remember it being really good.

I remember someone telling me I *had* to buy it at a certain Santa Cruz used bookstore :) I thought you still had your copy?

Kafka was an awesome book; one that I couldn't put down. It's also a very intellectual, intelligent, philosophical book, and one that will inspire a lot of awesome discussion.

So I hope everybody reads and comments!!

I hope so too. :) I never got a chance to tell you thank you for coming up with a good prompt last month, so, thank you! :)

Now that's a true believer in book club spirit!
:)

and ditto what joyce said - your prompt for Tipping Point is excellent, and I'm very grateful for you taking that on. It's been several years since I read it. I realized I needed to re-read it to double-check some of my perceptions of it, but then I got distracted part way through. I'll be back by soon to offer some comments!

Although Kafka on the Shore was the one book that was discussed that I really really want to talk about (and it was one of my suggestions), there's absolutely no way that I'll be able to talk about it in August. I'll try to go back and add comments, but it's highly unlikely -- the due date is during a major conference for us Mac geeks (especially those of us who are actual paid Mac geeks), and then I'm on vacation. So know that I'm there in spirit, if not in person, at least. Sigh. :(

I think it's been a busy summer, all around.

Ah, that's really sad.
:(

However, I'll be happy to pick up the discussion whenever you are able to head back over & join us.

I can't keep my copy any longer - popular book! - and it's just not going down well for me. I'm just not in the mood. :( I really wanted to read it, and it's a very interesting book, but more than a page or two and I get fidgety. I'm glad for the break and I've got my copy of Rebecca waiting patiently for me on my shelf.

Fair enough. :) It took me awhile to get The Tipping Point down too, even though I thought it was going to be a quick read.

I'm glad I'm not the only person this happens to. It's funny - there was a time when I would read *anything*. These days I notice more & more that I have distinct moods, and sometimes a book works for me, and sometimes it's just not the right time for it.

In the halcyon days of my youth, I *had* to read every day, and if I didn't have a book, then I read the shampoo bottles in the shower. Now... a lot of my reading has been replaced by blogs, feeds and news online and I don't read as much on paper. And though I have a quarter-century checked out, most are still sitting, unloved and waiting, for me to get around to being in the mood to read them. :P
