Is this thing on?

joyce has been very busy with school and work, and I haven't been on LJ as much, so our winter break has extended much longer than originally intended. Is anyone still out there? Are you interested in discussing some books? If so, please comment! It would be useful if you answered the following questions ( Read more... )

Fiction's good! I'm reading The Thin Place right now, and it is spectacular. Highly, highly recommended.

I alternate between fiction and non, so you can talk me into pretty much anything.

Some ideas ... Fiction: Fragile Things, short stories by Neil Gaiman; The Oprhan's Tales by Catherynne M Valente; JPod by Douglas Coupland. Non-fiction: The Cult of Mac by Leander Kahney; Nigger: The Strange Career of a Troublesome Word by Randall Kennedy, Indecent: How I Make It and Fake It as a Girl for Hire by Sarah Katherine Lewis, Why We Buy: The Science of Shopping by Paco Underhill.

3-4 weeks.

It sounds like fiction is winning, so I will toss your fiction titles into the mix!

And just so you know, one of the stories in Fragile Things has been nominated for a Hugo. You can read it online or download an MP3 of Neil reading it. That page has links to the other Hugo-nominated short stories, too, since they've all been put up on the web this year.

I've been a bit swamped with hte travel and pregnancy and getting married thing, but I'll have some time on my hands when I head to Ireland to read on the plane and in the evenings.

I recently read Lady Chatterly's Lover by D.H. Lawrence and am working on Virtual Light by William Gibson right now.

Fiction is good by me, and it doesn't take me more than a couple of days to get a book if i don't have it.

Those are all good reasons to be busy. Congratulations!

Good to know you'll be able to join us in a bit. It's nice to have your voice in the mix.

Fiction here, too. I get enough non-fiction through school.

I never know what good books are out; I live in a cave full of children and homework. Suggestions by others are greatly appreciated.

That Neil Gaiman book sounds good; short stories are easy when I'm overwhelmed. But longer could be a good escape too. :.)

Fiction it will be. I'll work on a poll.

I'm still here! Not as much as I used to be, but still here and still interested. :) I'm currently into fiction, but there's so much on my list to read that I have to take it on a book-by-book basis.

Depending on the popularity of the book, it can take anywhere from 2 days to 2 months for me to acquire a copy.

Yay! Fiction is definitely the ranking choice. I'll post a poll soon, so people can vote for titles.
