So.  I'm trying to sort out a new time for a recurring monthly meeting.  Now, to be fair, I'm just starting to figure out just how... contentious, relations in the program I work for are but I'm at my freakin' wits end with these people.

Over the last four months the feedback I've received has centred around two major issues: 1) I can be difficult ( Read more... )

Oh ugh. Herding cats is so damn difficult. And I don't feel that this sort of thing is your fault, nor something to be given as feedback.

Something I do with work, for things that are time sensitive (reviews, responses to meeting times, etc), is that I give a deadline, and I phrase it something like this:

"Unless I hear from you by 9am tomorrow morning, I will be setting up a meeting for 8am on Thursdays"

It definitely means you'll hear back sooner, anyway. Sometimes it means emails have to go back and forth a bit, i.e. "Chad can't make the 8am Thursdays meeting, so it's been switched to 9am Thursdays. If I don't hear from you by noon today, I will be setting up the meeting for that time"

Anyway, you know the environment there better than I, so you'll know if that will work for you - I wish you luck with it!

That sounds like the best idea ever. I think my problem is that Ive been leaving them with too many options and that has stunned them into silence. Thank you.

Oh how I love me the Meeting Wizard and Doodle (a Facebook app that provides a link you can add to your email, and Doodle is prettier) - I sent out a Doodle link with my original email. I've started using them instead of the Outlook meeting invite system because I'm emailing two or more organisations and it only works internally.
