This is great! You have definitely fallen head over heels for Xena! What season/ep are you up to? I still know them all quite well and I haven't watched a single ep in about ten years.
I love that you noticed that there were crossover actors! Is LOTS filmed in New Zealand? That's like the squee I got when I saw Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and saw Eower was Xena's old arch nemesis, Julius Casear (Karl Urban)!
That subtext is pretty evident. I mean when was the last time you let your best friend wash your back? Exactly. :-)
Someone at VividCon (the vidding convention this weekend) made a vid to Joxer's song! I can not wait for links to that because that's priceless!
Oh, I have so fallen head over heals for XENA!!!! I have been mainlining the show like I don't know what! I just got done watching Sacrifice *weeps like a little girl* and have started on the fourth season. The first pair of episodes are a little hard to get through because I'm not really fond of the warlord Xena/Solan's dad episodes.
Is LOTS filmed in New Zealand?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that it is. There was another *horribly campy* show that I loved, The Lost World, that was filmed in New Zealand and I have seen actors from that show pop up in Xena!
That subtext is pretty evident. I mean when was the last time you let your best friend wash your back? Exactly. :-)
OH YES!! Seriously, the show has like whole episodes that just scream that they are not only together, together but they are like *soulmate* together. I think it is called 'One Against an Army' and they spend the whole episode telling each other that they love each other and that death won't keep them apart all while Gabrielle lays dying. I seriously <3 them

What an awesome picspam! Looking at the similarities between the shows, it definitely makes me want to watch Xena. I especially love the part showing the re-use of the same actors.
If you do start watching Xena, I would love to hear your thoughts about the show. I'll admit that the first part of the show is more about SQUEE!!! than actual meta, but when the show does meta, it does meta.
Of course, Xena can be a bit of a seesaw because when the show does crack!, it jumps in with both feet and proceeds to take a bath in silliness; and when the show decides to be a Greek tragedy, it will leave you with your jaw on the floor and a hole in your heart. And usually, you will have an episode of crack! followed by an episode of Greek tragedy.
See, you're making me want to rewatch Xena, which is bad because I still need to finish BSG (which I haven't had time to watch an episode of in about a week, which is really, really sad), and then I think I might have to give LotS a try, 'cause it looks awesome. *adds LotS to instant watch queue*
Netflix is made of pure evil and enabling.
Subtext... Really?Lol, yeah, I don't even know. To me, they were always together - even when they weren't, and one of them was off seeing someone else, they were still always together in my head. I heart Xena/Gabrielle... And yeah, I think I'm totally going to watch Xena again at some point

You so need to rewatch Xena!!! I'm only at the beginning of the fourth season and I find myself rewatching episodes already.
Anyways, how far along are you in BSG?
Netflix is made of pure evil and enabling.
Totally! But you should watch LOTS because it is made of cracktastic! win!
To me, they were always together - even when they weren't.
THIS! I mean if you want to be technical about it, I think they fell in love with each other at some point in S1 and they were definitely together after "The Quest." **No, I don't want to talk about "Ulysses"**
I did watch the Xena/Gabrielle episodes of Hercules, but like you, Hercules is just not my cup of tea. Of course, having said that, I liked watching Xena as the evil warlord in Hercules, but I absolutely hated the Xena flashback episodes like "The Debt" and "Adventures in the Sin Trade" (except for Xena's vision of the future [Again, how can they be considered 'subtext' when they are both lying on a cross professing their love for each other ])
I just started disc three of season two. I want to be further along than that, but keep getting pulled away. :( I hope that once things calm down a little, I'll get more time.
The cross scene, I <3 it. I agree - how is that even close to being subtext?!
Lol, I love Xena. It was totally my gateway fandom. I'd never have discovered online fandom if not for that show - and that was back when online fandoms were a very new thing. And... now I feel old. Lol.
Well, I remember that there was at least one episode that sucked in the later stages of S2 BSG, but it really picked up steam at end of the season!
I have only seen Xena's vision of the cross scene, but when Gabrielle tells her that she loves her, she has such a serene look on her face that just makes me *flail!*

See, in a way, I'm terribly jealous because I keep finding shows that are beyond awesome, but the fandom for the show is pretty much dead. I know that people are still writing for Xena on Fanfiction.net, but I need a little meta to go along with my fic.
For me, I love reading about other people's thoughts about a show because usually you get bit of enlightenment mixed in with validation. It is very interesting to see how other people view the show.
