As a Chobit, Chii possesses many abilities that affect her relations with other persocoms. She is designed so that she has the ability to read data from other persocoms without opening a direct connection to them. She also possesses an extremely powerful firewall. When Shinbo attempts to use Sumomo to scan Chii and find out what programs have been installed, Chi's firewall causes Sumomo to crash; an action later repeated when Yuzuki attempts to scan her. Even when Yoshiyuki connects all of his most powerful persocoms into a large parallel processing network, they are not able to penetrate her defenses. In addition, Chii also has the ability to freeze other persocoms and enable them to hear a "familiar voice."
How would they use their abilities?:
Chii’s abilities that affect other persocoms only seem to be activated whenever she seems to go into one of her trances, usually amplified when someone attempts to violate Chii.
Appearance:
Chii was made to be an incredibly cute girl. Flawless pale skin, ivory hair, eyes of amber, all in the build of a 16 year old girl. The only thing that really separates her from a human girl in appearance are her ear gray and pink ear units. Chii’s a dressy girl, usually seen in sweet lolita dresses.
Background/Personality:
In the not too distant future, computers will advance past the tower and monitor units we see today. One day, someone will build a computer in the size and shape of a human, and these personalized computers (aka persocoms) will take the world by storm.
Late one night after getting off work, 19 year old student Hideki Motosuwa found a persocom in a pile of trash. Considering how much they cost, there was no way Hideki was able to afford buying one. Thinking he had struck lucky, Hideki took the persocom back to his apartment. While attempting to activate her, Hideki looked for the persocom's activation switch in about every nook and cranny. Eventually he found her power switch in a very unorthodox place. Overcoming his own moral objections, Hideki managed to press the switch and activate the persocom. In doing this, Chii was restarted, wiping out all of her memories of her former life. After her re-installation, Chii had a difficulty in communication, and was only able to repeat the word "chii". So Hideki decided to give her this name, and took it upon himself to teach Chii much like how a parent teaches a small child.
Since Hideki was completely new at dealing with persocoms, he had to rely on a book to make sure Chii was in proper working order. Plugging Chii into his television as a monitor should have displayed Chii's operating system; however this was not the case. The screen instead displaying "No Data", meaning Chii had no installed operating system. Turning to his best friend Shinbo, the two attempted to locate the reason why Chii was able to function without an operating system. With nothing really working, Shinbo decided to connect his notebook persocom, Sumomo, to Chii, which resulted in Sumomo crashing. Thinking Chii was a custom-built persocom, a distressed Shinbo sent Hideki to a friend of his, the child prodigy Minoru Kokubunji. As with Sumomo, Chii managed to crash four of Minoru’s custom-built models. After his failed attempt, Minoru deduced that Chii was a suspected candidate for the "Chobits" series, a super-computer that can supposedly function outside programming and were the closest persocoms to being human. Minoru discovered that Chii had some form of AI and had to be taught to perform everyday tasks, such as speaking, cleaning, and dressing.
To find any additional information about her, Minoru suggested that he should make a post on a persocom forum that he frequents. Minoru instructed Hideki to continue teaching Chii, perhaps in some vain attempt to unlock any of her memories regarding her programming or her previous master. Chii was able to learn quickly, and gained the ability to hold a conversation in a relatively short amount of time. Not long after Minoru made his post, he received a strange image via email from an untraceable sender; the image depicted a persocom identical in appearance to Chii. The word “HOBIT” was printed on the leg of the persocom, but since her arm was covering a portion of the word, it was easy to deduce the word actually spelled “CHOBIT”. Hideki showed the image to Chii, but she claimed the persocom in the picture wasn’t her.
Being a poor student, Hideki didn't have the means to properly dress Chii, for the time relying on the schoolgirl outfit and gym uniform provided by his landlady, Chitose Hibiya. Overhearing Hideki's plight as he was leaving for school one day, Chitose offered to have Chii stay for the day and give her some more outfits. Incredibly grateful, Hideki thanked Chitose and left the two to their play date. Alone with Chii, Chitose gave the persocom a dress and told Chii that it was made for her (as well as all of the other dresses Chii was given that day). Chitose questioned Chii about her memories; Chii, not knowing what it was that Chitose was asking, told Chitose that she had no data. For a moment, Chitose looked pained and held Chii close to her as a mother would. Noticing the time, Chitose sent Chii back to Hideki's room along with all the dresses she had given the persocom. It was around this time when Dark Chii, a mysterious being seeming to be a reflection of Chii only she can see and hear, began her visits. Dark Chii seemed to know Chii from before, also knowing Chitose. Dark Chii explained that will receive all the data from everything that Chii learns and that she would be watching over her. Though in Chii's view she is talking to Dark Chii like another person, to people looking on, it appeared Chii was in a trance, mumbling to herself.
With money tight, Hideki was considering getting a second job while Chii was looking through one of his smut magazines. Seeing a job advertisement in one of Hideki’s magazines, Chii looked to Hideki for approval; however Chii did not realize the position was for a dominatrix. Hideki, incredibly embarrassed, quickly tried to steer Chii away from looking for a job like that. Disregarding Hideki’s advice, Chii set out not long after Hideki left looking for a job. She was soon approached by a stranger and was invited to follow him for a job offer. The job offer in question was actually that of a stripper at a peepshow. When the owner of the peepshow tried to instruct Chii how to finger herself, Dark Chii intervened and warned Chii to stop. The owner barged in and attempted to show her what to do, forcing Chii to resist. To get the man to back off, Chii caused a power surge, destroying the room in the process and Chii escaped outside just in time for Hideki to find her. After managing to bring Chii home, Hideki reassured Chii she did nothing wrong. Knowing Chii still wished to help him Hideki got Chii a job at a local bakery that he used to work at. Chii was welcomed by the manager Hiroyasu Ueda and was able to get part time work during the anniversary sale. Impressed by her diligence, Ueda hired Chii full time. Around this time Minoru received another image of the persocom from before from the same anonymous user; this one depicting the persocom with two scientists, one of whom was Chitose.
One day, Chii had to walk to the bakery alone since Hideki had school during her hours. While standing outside a bookstore, Chii saw a copy of the latest book in the ‘City With No People’ series. She began to read the book, and while she was distracted Chii was kidnapped by Yoshiyuki, a computer hacker more commonly known by the alias Dragonfly. He explained to Chii that he recognized her as the persocom Minoru posted in an online forum about, and decided he wanted her. In Yoshiyuki’s home, Chii met Kotoko, Yoshiyuki’s notebook persocom. Kotoko talked to Chii about her master, questioned Chii’s devotion to Hideki, telling Chii that one day Chii will become obsolete to Hideki and be forgotten. Chii refused to believe something like that would happen. Yoshiyuki returned to hook up all of his persocoms to Chii. As he was attempting to break her defenses, Yoshiyuki was amazed that Chii had been able to block his program after an hour of continuous running. Under the impression that Chii was an extremely powerful persocom to garner the attention of Minoru, Yoshiyuki believed Chii really was a Chobit. Confident it would not be much longer to break her defenses, Yoshiyuki hugged the incapacitated persocom and attempted to grope Chii. This forced Dark Chii to intervene on Chii's behalf and caused Chii to go into another trance. Chii managed to tie Yoshiyuki up with the wires Yoshiyuki had plugged into her terminal in self-defense. When Hideki came moments later, he was able to break Chii out of her trance, and she immediately passed out from exhaustion. Hideki brought Chii home; also having Kotoko tag along so Yoshiyuki would not be able to falsify the fact he kidnapped Chii, to let Chii rest in bed until she came too. The next morning, Chii woke up and seemed like the incident with her trance at Yoshiyuki's never happened.
Seeming the ever dumb blond, she’s the most clueless girl you’ll meet in a long time. Chii has a very child-like personality, is naïve and doesn’t know many things about the world around her. But she is kind and thoughtful, and Chii does whatever she can to make others happy. She loves talking about Hideki, and seems really happy when doing so. Due to her programming, she does tend to mimic others, either repeating words she does not understand or behaviors. When left alone, Chii becomes incredibly lonely and is often visited by Dark Chii, who tries to answer Chii’s questions. When she’s in a trance, Chii is completely different. Her eyes are much colder, and her speech is much more coherent and sophisticated. The only thing she seems to talk about is her someone just for her.

[For some time the camera was on and recording, a little obvious it was knocked on by accident. There wasn't much to see for a minute or two, pretty much a jumbled mess of a towel. When the scene finally changed, the camera was focused on a girl about 16. She looked confused, but who wouldn’t be?]
This is a book? [If you experience motion sickness, best to look away while the girl tilted the guide from side to side, looking as if she was trying to figure out what it was. Eventually she just put it back down and went back to looking around.]
Chii does not know this place. This is not Hideki’s room. [Somehow the girl didn't seem very much panicked, just bewildred really. Kind of like this wasn't the first time she woke up in an unfamiliar place.]

The people here didn’t look at all like the people Chii was used to seeing. They didn’t look or seem like persocoms either. None of the girl’s questions were really answered considering these people were in no mood to help the clueless Chobit. Everyone did seem to like pushing Chii along though. Lines, papers, more lines, more papers. This was all so very confusing. “Chii.” The persocom’s eyes saddened a bit as her gaze turned towards the ground. No one has mentioned Hideki’s name once during the entire time Chii has been here. He was right beside her when she was asleep, so why was he gone now? Not even the person Chii was able to talk to after all the lines and papers said anything about Hideki. They only kept on saying things Chii really didn’t understand. Destroyed? Refugee? Maybe Kotoko can explain these words to Chii.
Wait that’s it. Maybe Hideki, Sumomo, and Kotoko were all together somewhere. After all, Sumomo was with Hideki when he found her before, right? Chii only needed to start working to find them.
