I guess I'll post an entry since neither homework nor writing is going well.
Last Monday at 1:30 p.m., my grandmother died. It was snowing here. I got the call about 2:45.
We buried her Thursday. I skipped my Wednesday class, but I emailed all my answers to the discussion we were suppose to have to the teacher. I think 3 pages of answers makes up for the fact that I wasn't there, yeah?
I bawled through the entire funeral. It was so much harder than I thought it would be. She was 95, and we knew it was coming, but it's just so hard. It just doesn't seem real.
At least now I know for certain how many cousins I have. Fourteen surviving first cousins, seventeen second cousins just from the grandkids (doesn't include Dad's cousins). It was the weirdest thing; Grandma's only surviving sister went first in line, followed by her 8 children, then the 8 spouses behind them, then the female grandkids by age, then the great-grandkids, followed by all the rest of the family. What funeral does NOT have the spouses sitting together?!? The male grandkids were the pallbearers and carried the casket, except for Gray who simply walked because he was recovering from an accident.
The church was so sweet and made us a crapload of food for the 75+ family members. My pastor attended the funeral, too. We got to meet the latest baby in the family, Ava. ♥ Such a cutie-pie.
I can now call myself an expert on pound cake. I don't know if it is a Southern thing, but when someone you know has a death in the family, you are supposed to make them a dish or a meal.
Next door neighbor? Made us a pound cake.
Pastor's wife, who lives down the street? Made us a pound cake.
Mom's friend, who doesn't live in the neighborhood? Made TWO pound cakes, cut them both in half, and gave us one pound cake with two flavors.
...chocolate pound cake: beats normal pound cake any day.
Before all that, Kt and I attended the Diversity Celebration on Tuesday.
Clockwise:
Korean: Pajeon (was it SUPPOSED to be spicy??)
Vegetarian Egg Roll (Yum! I never eat egg rolls, haha)
Baba Ganoush: Mediterranean (not a fan of eggplant...)
Bruschetta (The BEST. Stuff. Ever.)
Besitos de Coco (Coconut kisses): Puerto Rican (The server asked me if I wanted a besitos (kiss). Why yes, I'd like flirtation with my meal, thanks. =] )
Then we listened to bag pipes for 45 minutes. o.o; It was actually quite good. ♥ Grandfather Mountain Highlanders. I had no idea that NC was home to the largest gathering of Scottish clans in the world.
I was happy that the Pecan Pie Bars I donated to the Sister Library Project were selling well. I bought one on the way out.
Hmm, what else? Oh. Registration. All the troubles with that would take up another whole entry. Let's just say that I'm having to get system overrides and permits to take courses over the summer and a few for the fall as well. It's been one long "GAH!" process, but the registrar person I've been emailing has been a saint. I got the two classes I must have for the summer, so that's good. It's working out. =]
I picked up a copy of Shadowmancer for $2.13. Still haven't read Interview with the Vampire or the last half of Anne of Green Gables. Or Shade's Children, for that matter. The Graveyard Book was good, though. Had to read that one for school. Still waiting for the professor to give me back my copy of Keeping the Moon and our assignments...
That's about it.
