Downton speculation courtesy of my parents - I LOVE THEM.
At this moment in time, I BLOODY LOVE MY PARENTS.
It all started when, in an innoccuous phone call to my mother, she asked that immortal question...
"So, what did you think of Downton this week??"
We gushed and speculated for a good half hour. Apparently, my parents have been speccing away just as much as me.... (Ok, maybe not so much).
I outlined my reasoning for why an M/M sex scene TOTALLY MAKES SENSE. Mother agreed. (WOOP!).
I then complained about the lack of development for Matthew/Lavinia. I've discussed this much already. On the topic of Matthew's apparent LACK of any sign of concern for his fiancee sobbing over him, (I'm only going to Coventry!) Mother outlined her own theory.
I don't think it's at all likely, but interesting to consider...
Consider that Carlisle knows about Mary/Pamuk. Carlisle knows Lavinia/and her father. Lavinia also, then, knows about Mary/Pamuk. Lavinia wants to marry Matthew. Suspects he's still in love with Mary - tells him about the scandal and threatens to reveal it unless he marries her. Matthew, being Matthew, wants to protect Mary from scandal and so agrees - resulting in not-so-subtle pining for Mary and lack of interest in Lavinia.
Anyway, that's mums theory. Interesting to chew over, I thought, if not likely.
A few hours later, I get a text.
"Told Father I have a theory about the Matthew/Mary/Lavinia triangle, and he says he's got a theory too - Matthew's gay. There now, that would be fun, wouldn't it. His true love is Thomas. The love that dare not speak it's name. Or William... Or Carson.. Bates? How tragic that they (whoever they may be) will never suspect his true feelings.."
I told my mum that I LOVED THEIR THEORIES. She begged me not to encourage her.
Then...
"I see the future - Father and I shall have to collaborate on our own fan-fiction. Just have to choose a suitable name..."
I say again. Right now, I LOVE MY PARENTS.
