Me meme (lol...)

In the interests of procrastination (always), I'll have a stab at this... In which I discover how very boring I am!

11 Facts about me!

1. I don't know why this is the one that leaps out, but I have a phobia of buttons, which everyone I know finds a source of great hilarity. I've no idea why, I'm not *scared* of them, but they make me feel absolutely ill and I can't stop staring at them in a sick sort of way (like a road-crash). If I touch one I have to like, scratch at my fingers obsessively for a long time. BLEUGH. In fact typing this is making me feel slightly ill, so I shall move on!

2. I'm a Seventh-day Adventist Christian. That means I go to church on Saturdays, I believe the Bible largely literally (unless something is obviously depicted as metaphor/vision/parable), I believe in a six-day creation and I believe that Jesus Christ died to save us from the consequences of sin. I now bid you goodbye as you flee the crazy person. :) In all seriousness, being a naturally depressive person, I find the faith in a 'higher power' immensely comforting, and the Sabbath a real blessing - for 24 hours in the week I don't do any work, I feel under no pressure, and can really take a break from life.

3. Tied to the above, I suppose, I suffered from anxiety/depression when I was 15. Over MATHS COURSEWORK. Or that set it off, at least. I have amazing family/friends who got me through it, I prayed a lot, and thankfully don't struggle with it (much) any more - though I am a natural worrier and have serious self-confidence issues!

4. I've been with my husband since we were both 14, and was friends with him for years before that. We got to know each other on a residential (aged 9/10) talking about Redwall books and Robotech, and we sat on the coach together coming home. Aaahhh.

5. I consider myself to be musical. I play quite a lot of instruments, none of them brilliantly well. My favourite instrument is piano, which I can competently bash out some Scott Joplin on, which is enormous fun. I mean, I do play *well*, but rarely cleanly - but I like to think that adds a certain charm to it!

6. I'm very close to my mother. We have the same tastes, finish each other's sentences, frequently express a thought that the other was JUST thinking (the RANDOMEST of things)... We emailed every day while I was at University. I generally love my family to pieces.

7. This one's not a phobia, but I HATE talking to people on the phone. The prospect of it gives me the sweats and my pulse races. I'd far, FAR rather email and wait a day for a response than phone anyone.

8. I have a bugbear. When I was little, my parents told me off for lying. They'd said I could have a biscuit before bedtime, but only if I'd brushed my teeth. I lied and said I had, to get a biscuit. Only years later did it occur to me, WHO gives their child a biscuit AFTER brushing their teeth?!?

9. I divide with my family/friends on whether my husband looks anything like Dan Stevens. Now, I don't think he looks JUST LIKE HIM. I think there are similarities; in colouring, his jawline, his eyes, little things... This opinion is shared by his own mother, two of my very best friends, and various others (even eolivet has expressed agreement after seeing a photo). The others (my parents, husbands, another very close friend & various others) think I'm being obsessive and projecting because I WISH he looked like him. I maintain that if there were no similarity at all, I wouldn't just imagine it - I like to believe that that's why I like Dan Stevens so much! My husband disagrees.

10. I'm chronically lazy/messy. I wish I wasn't. I really, really wish I wasn't, but I am. A quote in the book Redwall summed my attitude up - "Never do anything today that can be left till tomorrow." I think I'd just be doing *anything* rather than what I'm supposed to be doing, even if I actually *want* to do the thing I'm supposed to be doing! (Case in point - I really need to be writing ATiL as my weekend from now is chocka. I'm doing this instead.)

11. I still sleep with my teddy (his name is Teddy). I've had him since I was a month or two old. When I say I sleep with him, I mean I actually cuddle him in bed. Yes, I'm married. No, my husband doesn't mind. Phew. He loves teddies as well, and still has his childhood gorilla (who sleeps on top of the bedhead). Our teddies (about... 61, at last count?) live scattered on our bookshelves in various amusing/endearing combinations and positions. We move them periodically so they don't get bored.

I'm very well aware that now I come across as a COMPLETE and utter freak... But... Meh! That's me. :)

Questions taken from ju_dou:

1. What do you do if you can't sleep?
Either pray, or plot fanfic! Or both. Not at the same time. :S

2. Earliest memory?
Falling into one of the pond/lakes at Burnby Hall Gardens when I was 3 or 4. I think I'd been eating hula hoops... I distinctly remember being underwater and seeing my mum's hand (I remember seeing her watch) reach under and grab my ankle. Then my dad taking me home for a bath.

3. Have you ever seen red?
Really? No, I think I have. I'm a very placid person! Probably too placid, at times. I get frustrated, but never to a serious point.

4. The most moving book you have ever read?
Birdsong. GAH. Brought me to tears in the school library. But see earlier posts for my gushing over that! :)

5. What do you eat for breakfast?
Cereal and a mug of tea. Toast if we're out of milk or cereal!

6. Spearmint or regular mint?
Spearmint. Every time.

7. If you could live in any fictional place where would it be?
Redwall Abbey... *sigh*

8. Do you have a favourite towel with which to dry your hair? (this may be just me)
No...

9. Most AWKWARD family moment?
I... don't think I have one! My family, like me, are very quiet and unassuming... So there's never really much opportunity for awkwardness! Ok.. No. The only thing I can think of is my INSANE flailing in the proposal scene of the Downton CS, because I'd only watched DA with my husband, not my family, and not my brother's girlfriend who was only just meeting us... and there was me, screaming repeatedly and very loudly into a cushion and then collapsing into joyful sobbing. And they all just sort of stared pityingly at me.. :P

10. Favourite cartoon as a kid?
Oh, that's a hard question!! Dangermouse? Bananaman? Does Thunderbirds count as a cartoon?

11. Best Christmas tradition?
My dad reading The Night Before Christmas to my brother and I just before going to sleep on Christmas Eve. :) A tradition I fully intend to reinstate when I have children of my own!

And now I basically apologise for all of that, and if you've got this far and somehow don't think I'm INSANE, then you're a darling and I love you!
