The word proactive makes me think of face wash. So when my mom says "Claire, you need to take a more proactive approach to life." I'm thinking " So you want me to go wash my face...."  Washing my face wouldn't make me feel any better.
Also, oxford valley mall has a proactive vending machine, which is just bizzare.
