My day in data entry

Feb 25, 2008 22:29

Guess what I did for 9 hours today? A couple thousand of these:

48 tab 79 tab 61 tab 60 tab 24 ...

0.51 tab -1.2 tab -0.17 tab -0.1 tab 1.78 ...

1303 tab 1175 tab 1253 tab 1258 tab 1398 ...

Hopefully it will be enough to tide us over until the programmers finish the tools which will automate all of this.

/Somebody/ should write their own software to automate this. ;)

Well, we were supposed to have the tools already. Last weekend I spent 2 hours automating a task that takes 30 minutes to do by hand, so I couldn't really afford that kind of investment given the time-sensitive nature of the project. I think some kind of macro could have saved a good chunk of that effort though, I'll have to look into it.

BTW one of the points of my frustration last weekend is the fact that Windows command line apparently hasn't evolved since DOS 6.22, ugh. I mean, I'm not expecting awk/sed functionality but no head/tail?

If you can install stuff on your work computer, take a look at SFU (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/interopmigration/bb380242.aspx).
