Still, if it was a statie, there's a good chance he or she won't show to the date. Otherwise they could invialidate(or the official term for saying it no longer works) your license.

It happens to the best of us, likely the points will be dropped and you'll just have the fine, which sucks, but it could be a lot worse. I doubt they'll take your license on your first offense, and there is a pretty good chance the officer won't show up, especially if he is a state trooper.
