Giving my job to an ensign is a little like taking someone who has heard of cars; maybe seen them operated in movies, setting them in front of the wheel of a 2007 automatic, giving them the user manual from a 1985 stick shift and telling them to teach themselves how to drive.

You should do that the other way around, sticking them in a stick shift with a user manual for an automatic would be much more amusing.
