For regular postings, I vainly choose my icons by how hot the Sam and Dean look. I'm also very lazy so my default doesn't change much. If I'm posting a story, the icon usually fits the theme of the story or chapter.

I can honestly say I have never even considered removing a comment because of the icon. Every once in a while someone will have one that I think is cool and I comment in the reply. Other than that... everybody deserves their preferences. Heck, half the time I'm just thankful for comments ;)

*laughs*

I love your reason (and honesty) for picking the icons that you do.

I, too, am grateful for comments and doubly grateful to know that you feel the way you do about preferences. Thanks for chiming in!

I would never in a million years remove a comment to one of my fics unless it was abusive. I've had people comment that they either didn't like the story or thought it was really out of character, etc, and I've left them up.

Of course, I am not an OTP kind of girl, I am a total multi-shipper, but I think the whole shipping war thing is nonsense. I realize that I'm pretty old, but it honestly reminds me of middle school behavior. "Oh, you don't like INXS? I'm not going to be friends with you, then."

When you write fic or comments, you are the driver.

See my icon for the rules on that.

I admire your stance, especially in the face of what I am sure is intended as constructive criticism (the only kind that is of value to a writer) posted as comments to your fics.

Multi-shipper. I like that term. I prefer not to think of us as old, either. I am no spring chicken but I've been around the block a time or fifty, and I learned in those walks that if I want tolerance I must be tolerant. Wisdom for the win, right?

LOVE your icon and see this icon for my opinion of you. Thanks for chiming in!

I have this nice one of Colin Ford when he was 12 or so for when I post my filthy wee!cest. I feel it adds to the smuttiness.

Also, I agree with tifaching about where you're posting. If I just read a lighthearted story about Dean and Sam out getting ice cream and enjoying a sunny day, I'm not going to use the icon where Sam's stitching up his own arm wound.

*laughs merrily* It does add to the smuttiness! Gads. The things this fandom has taught me. The world will never be the same.

Glad to hear you also tailor yours to better match what you are posting to. That seems to be common and I like it!

I ... have friends on all sides of the fences that designate the battle arena of the shipping wars. I enjoy the variety of perspectives, the different plays on narrative and the constant fluidity of change offered up by the varying views of those within this fandom.

*standing ovation* THIS RIGHT HERE is why you're such a welcome presence on my flist. Thank Chuck for sane people capable of understanding that not everyone thinks the same way, has the same ship, or even likes the same characters.

How do you choose your icons? LOL, I switch icons according to my mood. Dean one day, Jared the next, then Miss Piggy or Dirty Harry the day after that. XD ( ... )

Awwww, thank you! I believe this fandom would be so much less if it did not have as much diversity as it does. (The Thank Chuck made me rofl, fyi.) I just wish sometimes that the more passionate people could make room for those of us that have every bit as much passion but an equal amount of patience and tolerance to balance it out ( ... )

"Do you remove posts if the icon shows a pairing that is not your OTP?" I would never even consider it. The only comments that ever get removed are spam, I don't care how cool their icon is. :)

My icons mostly consist of some combination of Sam, Dean and John and I've never even considered having one made for a character just to post to someone who likes said character(though it was awfully nice of you to do it). They can post to me with whatever icon they like and I expect the same consideration.

I had one icon I used for the longest time, but in the course of fandom wishlists, I've had a bunch made for me and I rotate them around (when I remember). I try to remember to not use one of my dark and nasty icons when I go to a gen comm, or to a flistie that I know would be squicked, but generally when I'm leaving comments whatever icon is my default at the moment is it.

I agree with verucasalt123 above (I'm old too). Shipping wars are nonsense. I'm a Sam/Dean, John/Dean, Alastair/Dean, Anybody/Dean girl, but I've read and ( ... )

It is heartening to know that you would not consider removing a comment because of an icon.

*blushes* I am one of those people that pays a lot of unintended attention to detail, so I do little thoughtful things without considering them overly thoughtful. I consider it a personal strength as it often shows how much I care when I tend to be less than stellar at expressing it in words.

I adore that you pay attention when posting to various groups because of your personal tastes v. the group or flister.

*hugs your soapbox before putting it away*

Thank you for chiming in. I feel more solid in my opinion knowing it is shared and that is a wonderful gift.

I definitely wouldn't remove a comment because of the icon. I notice if it's something eye-catching but otherwise I'm looking at the comment. Hell, if it's criticism that I think is constructive I leave it there too. (I've had someone remove their own comment which THEY deemed too harsh after reviewing it, but I thought it was useful and informative)I tend to use neutral or fic-related icons but it can be random. I'm multi-fandom, multi-ship so I like diversity and may occasionally use the wrong fandom icon altogether ;)

Thank you for chiming in. I really appreciate it.

I hope to model your want to leave comments intact, especially constructive criticism. (I adore that someone else checked themselves and removed their own. That's cool.)

It is good to be random. It shows not only what you like and what you are here for but a bit of who you are. I cannot help but think that is a good thing.
