how do people with kids use taxis? do they just hold the baby mexico city style? or do keep the babies in their little portable carseats?

I am told that people who have babies in New York City aren't allowed to take them home from the hospital without a car seat, even if the only time the kid will be in the car is when the parents take taxis. So I guess portable car seats are the rule. I would hope so, anyway.

You can install most infant car seats without the base, using a regular seatbelt (and possibly a locking clip).
