A REAL Post

I know its been a long time since I've made actual real post, but I thought I would write one while I've got the chance.

First of all, the wedding went off well. You may still be able to view proofs of our day on our photographer's website. There are some pictures that he took that are missing (mostly of the "fellowship circle" during Piano Man ( Read more... )

so it sounds like you've got a lot going on! at least you've got a plan - that's a great place to start :) and you're like a cat, you'll wind up on your feet.

and seeing your pictures again was wonderful! I had so much fun that night!

all my love to you and Anna-Banana,

I had talked to Anna briefly about it....

Have you looked into a Masters in math/science/technology?

I had a class that encompassed all three at Fisher, but I was pretty sure that you could get a degree in it.

I'm sure that it'll all work out. Keep the faith. (-:

Yes, one of the programs I plan to look into is the M.S. in Math, Science & Technology Education at St. John Fisher. I also plan to look into grad programs at Nazareth, Roberts Wesleyan, Brockport, Geneseo, and maybe U of R. The MST program at St. John Fisher looked promising, though.

Hope Va. is treating you well, and you're feeling more settled in.

we wish the job hunt was going better, but your plan does look real good.

One thing a math teacher at our building did to integrate technology was they used a powerpoint version of a game show. I think once was jeporady, and maybe weakest link. He found the files online and used his own information. I could even see if I can get the files from him, incase you'll want it in the future.

Thanks for the suggestions, Dan. One of the teachers at Honeoye had a PowerPoint Jeopardy template, and I thought I had it, but I don't seem to be able to find it. I should be able to get it from her. I've used games before (Bingo, for example), and they are good for review, but I'm looking to find other ways to engage the students when I'm actually teaching them material ( ... )

Familiar with Marilyn Burns (it's been a while) - not so much with the math curriculum. Much of what I do is teaching reading with multisensory, tactile ways, but a lot of what I have seen and do I have adapted from other teachers. Even being an early childhood person who is very constructivist (learning by doing), it still took me a long time to figure out how to implement it into the classroom. It can be done. I have certain toys (literally, toys) that I use to present concepts iwth second and fourth graders (even some of my kindergarteners last year). For example, I have a Fisher Price Little People toy car that I use to remind students to stay on track while writing, or a crocodile puppet that I use to explain the difference between the short and long vowel sound... I don't know how well receieved it would be by high-schoolers, and I wonder how to get some of the math concepts into a visual/kinesthetic model. On the simplest level, I'm thinking a car on a number line... but that is more elementary level than high school. ( ... )

Thanks for the good wishes. I guess 11 years of collegiate schooling isn't enough.
