Drive from the UK to Cote D'Ivoire/Ivory Coast, perhaps hitchhike back. I've got a contact who works for an NGO there and she needs a van that can carry her ex-child-soldier kids. It's only 9000km one way.
The drive down doesn't worry me because I'm positive you can handle it and there are nice places to see along the way. But hitchhiking back? Are you NUTS? One of those hail chunks rattle your brain? Don't make me come after you!!!! ;)
As for the west Africa route, as long as you're paired with a man, I think it would be an amazing journey. Not that you can't handle yourself, because you can. It's just that trouble is less likely to start in the first place when you're paired with a guy. I know. It's a very sexist world. It is what it is.
BTW, no recent photos. Did you lose your camera in the fire or are you just short on time?
