Keep an eye on Bangladesh: they periodically have serious infighting that is totally ignored by Western media.

It goes without saying, perhaps, but be careful. Which I know you will be, experienced traveler and all. :) If the trip comes to pass, drink a cup of tea for me somewhere along the way. ;)

I will endeavour to be very careful, not least of all because it's not a solo trip. There are many backup plans for if the area ahead is too unsettled; there are only a few points where going back the way we came is not an option. And yes, tea plantations are defo on the cards - the tea hills of Bangladesh might be the best place to be when it's so hot. :)

This is super exciting! I contemplated those borders back in 2004 when I was in Burma but it was a total no-go. Good luck!

I've read traveller reports from a few who have done it, and a friend cycling around the world is attempting the Tamu/Moreh border any day now, so fingers crossed.
