I came pretty close to asking my dentist to simply remove my most out-of-place tooth the other day. Your story gives me hope. Although I think my teeth would need a lot more moving around than the average, since my occlusion has been clinically described as "mangled". Makes it sound like I was in a car wreck.
Yeah, I guess the elastics are here to line up the uppers and lowers correctly, and fix my bite. Doc says my messed up bite is what caused all of my jaw issues, sooo... hopefully this will help that more. I will say that I'm having less clicking, partly because I just can't open my mouth. ;) It's like having an adjustment every day because when I change the elastics, everything gets super tight (ouchy) again.
Oh, bands, I'd forgotten about those. The best part is when your mouth is open and one of them snaps exactly right, and it goes flying across the room (that's rare, but awesome).
I'd say it's normal to worry. It's like having a renovation done on your house while you're living in it, and it takes multiple years. Kids just trundle along because they don't know anything else. I think any normal adult would worry it would just never get done and/or consider stopping.
