summary: a phone-call from home makes hoya the happiest.
Hoya prided himself for a lot of things; being good at dance, writing raps and singing. Lately, had also been complimented a lot on his good looks and he could make girls scream with a flick of his arms or a lazy smile. But if he really sat down and thought about it, all these things that he confidently flaunted in front of screaming fangirls and flashing cameras were things that an idol was expected to be good at. There would always be a better dancer, a better rapper, a better singer and that one good-looking bastard who would be so much handsomer and cooler than he would ever be.
A phone-call from his younger brother turned his heart to soft marshmallows; he had never wanted to hug that irritating little brat so much in his entire life, because how long has it been since the last phone call? He had called just to inform Hoya that he had seen Paradise, but Hoya knew that his younger brother was feeling a little lonely and wanted someone to talk to. Hojun never calls, otherwise. But it was nearing midnight and it was a weekday night, didn't that boy have school the next day?
"Hyung!" His brother's voice was excited and sounded like he was jumping around. "I saw the Paradise's performance video! You know the one where you were thrusting your hips-"
"Thrusting?" Hoya repeated, taking his mobile away from him ear and staring at it. "Just where did you learn that word from?!"
"What?" Hojun replied, sounding slightly irritated. "School? I mean, I'm not that bad with my vocabulary, contrary to popular belief, because if you move your hips like that, what other word-"
"Yeah and contrary to Lee Hojun's belief, you are actually talking to me at-" Hoya glanced at his watch. "A time that is waaaaaay past your bedtime. Are you not going to sleep yet?"
"What is a Lee Howon," Hojun retorted and Hoya had to bite back a threat to strangle him for being rude, "Are you a mother now? Oh, wait! Mother's beside me now, you're on loudspeaker! Anyway, you look ugly in the video and I hate you- ow! ("Lee Hojun, I dare you to say that to my face- oh is that Mother? YES MOTHER SLAP HIM!") you are ugly- ow! Mother, he was yelling- okay bye hyung! You're the best in Infinite but I still hate- ow! love you! BYE!!!"
Hoya chuckled at he heard his mother screaming at his brother to go to sleep, before gently cooing at him, "Howon, dear," she cooed, as if talking to a cat. "How have you been?"
"Fine, Mother," Hoya answered, laying down on his bed and staring at the top bunk. "How's the family? Is something going on with Hojun? He doesn't usually call me..."
"Everything's fine, don't you worry, darlin. Your brother... He probably wants to tell you that-" There was a pause as Hoya heard his mother moving around and then closing a door. Her voice got softer, "He took dancing classes. Don't tell anyone! He's so excited about it... Kinda like you when you were younger."
"Dance classes?" Hoyas sputtered, jolting up from his bed. So that was why Hojun called! Hoya regretted being such a nag to him about bedtimes and all; who cares about sleep if it's dance? He asked, "Since when?"
"It's been three months, if I'm not wrong. But don't tell your father, he doesn't know... yet."
"He will not be happy," Hoya mumbled, recalling vividly how angry his father had been when he found out about Hoya's love for dance.
"True," Hoya's mother sighed. "But, dancing isn't all that bad, right? I'm just glad he's not joining gangsters or-"
"Mum," Hoya laughed because he could not imagine his brother being a gangster. Hojun was too innocent for that kind of thing. "I don't think he's like that. Uh, do you think you could let me speak to him for a while? I know it's late!" He quickly added as his mother started protesting. "Just two minutes and you can snatch the phone away from him and ask him to sleep! Promise!"
"Alright, just two minutes! I'm timing you!" His mother joked. "Talk to you soon, Howon. I love you."

"Just keep dancing, you know, since you love it so much. You're only young once, if you don't do it now, then when?" Hoya said into the phone, shifting a bit so he could be more comfortable in his bed. "But... try not to make Father too unhappy. I don't know, just study hard first and get really good grades and just-"
"Yeah I know," Hojun whispered, sounding a little muffled, as though he was speaking into his pillow. "And hyung?"
"Hmm?"
"I didn't really mean it when I called you ugly," Hojun laughed softly. "I'm only going to say this once-" Pause. "You're looking really handsome these days and you dance like a pro! I'd love to stand on that stage with you so we can dance together. You know, someday?"
Hoya kept quiet for a moment, before replying,"I know I'm handsome, kiddo ("I regret saying anything..."). Hoya laughed a little, imagining Hojun rolling his eyes, before continuing, "Just... just keep dancing okay?"
"Thanks, hyung," Hojun was positively smiling into the phone, Hoya could tell. "And... I'm probably going to regret this forever," Hojun stated resignedly, before taking a deep breath and saying out the next few words really fast, "You'rethebesthyungintheworld, youknow?"
"Yeah."
"Good night, loser."
Hoya felt like his heart was doing cartwheels of joy (really flipping with happiness as it thundered against his chest); he felt really happy that his brother had found something to love, even happier that Hojun was following his footsteps in dance. Even if there was a better dancer, singer, rapper and someone more handsome than he was, Hoya couldn't care less. He was the best hyung in the world and that was something he was really proud about.
a/n: this is so random omg but i was going to write this a bit longer and add infinite in but it felt too much. plus i didn't really know how to continue/end if i do put in the rest of the members... my skillz ;~; and i know the title is lacking so much but i really couldn't think of a better title, so i apologise for that as well!
familial issues have always been my favourite to write because i'm quite a ~family-oriented~ kinda person so i always love writing about them (also why my first fanfic was about family/going home lol- you can read it in my masterlist, if you want) i apologise deeply for the language mistakes that i've made! :-( thank you so much for reading and your comments are always appreciated! ♥
