this endless song we're singing
everyone, OT7; PG-13
summary: Woollim creates another sub-unit within Infinite.
a/n: this is not complete yet, I'm just posting this to get some ideas flowing. Sorry! (and I hope you'd enjoy this, anyway)
Woollim creates a sub-unit in Infinite, another one, Sungyeol notes, and calls it Infinite M. M for Main Vocals, comprising only of Woohyun and Sunggyu. The latter beams when the manager hands him the scores of the new song that they will be learning. Woohyun takes one look at it and pouts.
“Just the two of us?” He asks, pointing at himself, then Sunggyu. But what he means is: What about the rest?
The manager nods curtly and leaves, after telling them that recording starts next week. Sunggyu has already started sight-reading the piece of music, humming to himself. He stops when he realizes that everyone is staring at him.
“What?”
“I like Infinite as seven, though,” Woohyun starts, leaning against the wall. “We already have Infinite H, why do we need another sub-group?”
Hoya and Dongwoo look up upon hearing that. Dongwoo laughs, “I think Infinite M is cool.” Sunggyu shoots Woohyun a triumphant look. “Maybe we can even do a collab. Infinite H and M.”
“Infinite’s better with seven,” Woohyun repeats. “Besides-“
“We can be like Taetiseo,” Sunggyu argues, waving the music scores in Woohyun’s face. Woohyun glares at him. “They’re really popular.”
“You’re just really happy because you finally have a whole verse to yourself,” Myungsoo remarks, no bite in his voice, but it still makes Sunggyu turn to him sharply.
“That’s not true!” Sunggyu starts to flush, though, proving Myungsoo’s point.
Sungyeol lets out a laugh; harsh and almost angry. He says nothing, so Sunggyu lets it slide. He turns to Sungjong, who looks away. Hoya is fiddling with the hem of his shirt, swallowing all the things he want to say, that much Sunggyu knows. Woohyun is still glaring at him.
“Guys,” Sunggyu begins, rubbing the back of his neck in frustration. “I really-“
“It’s getting late,” Hoya stands up, beckoning Sungjong to come along. “You can discuss this tomorrow.”
Sunggyu opens his mouth to say something but stops when everyone start to leave. He glances at the music sheets once more and sighs. He has more parts than Woohyun, but that’s not even the point anymore.

The other five still have to be up early for vocal practice, despite not participating in the debut. The company decides that everyone should improve their singing at least, together with Infinite M, because they are singers, after all. The managers hurry them into the van; Sungyeol bites back a “how come we don’t learn rapping when it was Infinite H” because Hoya pinches him and gives him a warning look. Sungyeol scowls.
Sunggyu is the first to get up, unexpectedly cheery for morning practice. He is already in the van, doing vocal warm-ups, urging Woohyun to do the same. The latter growls a refusal before falling back asleep next to Dongwoo, who is snoring, and Sunggyu does it alone.
(though, not for long, because Hoya jerks awake as he does a particularly loud vocal exercise, and roughly tells him to keep quiet. That coming from the usually cool-headed main dancer is rare so Sunggyu obliges.)

Debut is drawing nearer and everyone is focusing on Infinite M. The release of the song has been a great success; praises are mounting high for the song and expectations skyrocketing for their debut. Sungjong points out in dismay at the alarming number of fans (his fans) that Infinite M is gaining.
“It’s all Infinite M these days,” he whines, scrolling down the page of their fancafe. “Sunggyu oppa, Woohyun oppa, Sunggyu, Woohyun, Sunggyu, oh L? Woohyun-“
“We get it,” Sungyeol cuts him off, walking over to where Sungjong is sitting, a cup of cold water in his hands.
“Don’t be jealous,” Sunggyu jokes, laughing, as he approaches the two of them.
Sungyeol turns to him and (accidentally-on-purpose) drops the cup of water onto Sunggyu’s feet. He apologises, but it sounds so cold, Woohyun decides to step in and tells him not to be mean. Sunggyu narrows his eyes at Sungyeol, anger bubbling in his chest, but stomps off to his room instead when Woohyun brushes his arm against his.
Sungyeol huffs, before picking up his cup and leaving for the kitchen. Woohyun sees the rappers exchanging glances, shrugging at each other; Sungjong decides to surf other websites. Myungsoo spaces out but Woohyun knows he thinks about these things, too. Especially when he wakes up in the middle of the night to relieve himself and finding Myungsoo still awake, and just staring at the walls in the living room.
“Don’t forget us when you get really popular,” Myungsoo whispers and those words just snaps Woohyun out of his sleepy daze, his heart starting to have an unfamiliar sort of ache.
He decides that his bladder can wait and strides to where Myungsoo is sitting, crouching next to the younger boy. Woohyun slowly takes Myungsoo’s hand and gives it a squeeze.
“Never.”
