Embers, Part 19/20 (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

Jul 17, 2011 02:11

I've been away for most of the past week, and I'm only back online now, so instead of responding to your reviews from last time now, I'm going to post the chapter before I get to bed and respond tomorrow, instead. I have been receiving them via phone and they're much appreciated! *hugs*

Oh, and thank you so much to sintonia for the chocolate vgift! ;)

I'm so sad that there's only 1 chapter left! I will miss getting notifications that there is more season 9 fic out there.

I'm kind of torn between sadness and relief to let this one go...but I'm hoping for some S9 goodness as we near the actual release date- if only from the one panel we've already seen. =)

(I doubt I'll be writing anything else until the comics start up again. Maybe some S9 BA fic, but I don't think that anyone reading this story will be very interested in that.. :D)

Love Angel and Illyria to the rescue, grudging acceptance from Kennedy, and smoochies between Buffy and Spike.

Aw, the ending is so lovely. I don't care for Comics!Angel, but I really like that you've made him grow as a character, rather than just forget about him as might be easier. I like that he's willing to kill Orkanel and can still (sort of) be talked down by Buffy- and his pout about her killing him is excellent. This seems like a small detail, but I really, really like that you reference his pout in "Chosen" so we have a good picture in mind. That's what I try to do in fic, reference memorable character expressions from canon, and it's cool to see someone else do it.

I've always loved Angel, and what little we get of him in the comics is so incomprehensible to me that I've chosen to focus on it completely as an external factor that influences him now, but without incorporating his character from the comics because the character itself doesn't function as Angel (I hope that makes sense!). Antihero, occasionally broody and goofy Angel is more my cup of tea. ;)

I always worry when I do (outside of obvious flashbacks), because I don't want to fall into the trap of having characters remember verbatim what happened to them years before, when it's just unrealistic (though canon itself does it at least twice in S7), but sometimes, if it's just an overall sense from a scene years before or a particularly memorable moment, I risk it anyway. You're right, it does call forth an image for the reader, and it skates just close enough to believability-in-story to be worth it. :)

I remember Buffy's callback to Xander's "Kiss his ass," but what's the second?

I was thinking of Spike recalling that Faith told him that she "could ride me at a gallop 'til my knees buckle, squeeze me 'til I pop like warm champagne." He does say that it's something that a man forgets, but it's also very nearly verbatim for something that happened three years before... :/

Great chapter ! I can`t wait for the last . And it is so sad that it will be the last one . I`m glad that this time Buffy confirms her feelings and he doesn`t answer " No, you don`t , but thanks for saying it " . Finaly he belives her, obviously. But I still what to know what has been his feelings to her all the time ? WHy he hide his feelings for her ? May we see his POV , pretty please !!!!

Thank you! We're not switching into Spike's POV completely next chapter, but there's definitely going to be some revelations of his feelings here. =)
